I'm having a real hard time, I definitely know I want to make comics inspired from manga since I'm not japanese myself. The question is there's a point where if I can get the drawings decent I can craft the storyboards and create the stories I want. I just wonder if drawing and learning for a few years would be appropriate rather than spending somewhere like 7-8 years + just trying to achieve perfection and losing sight of my goal
>I definitely know I want to make comics
Then just do it. What's the problem? Unless you mean you can get the drawing part down but can't make good story/boarding.

I'm pretty self conscious of my art looking pretty bad, and wonder if it's recognizable to a point, would it be better to sacrifice time for drawing for storyboarding and creating comics instead

Draw for a while and begin studying, if you don't enjoy it, you'll quit anyways. That's all there is to it.

Stuff like mob psycho already proves you can make comics with shitty art. If you make doujin comics you essentially get to practice drawing storyboarding and comic making at the same time.
Start drawing comics now. You can only learn by doing, and you won't know what kind of drawing practice you need until you have a scene that you don't know how to draw.
post where you're at now

But i already tell you, writing is just as hard as drawing.
