i felt like my expressions were garbo,so i grabbed this grid and tried drawing my waifu. can i get some tips, notes or whatnot for doing expressions such as this?
>>
>>3012099
Goddamn, ain't it fugly. While there are at least some hints at the intended expressions, you really suck at them.

Solution: go to danbooru/gelbooru and search by "moaning" / "happy_sex" / "naughty_face" / "heavy_breathing" tags (NOT all of them together, although you surely can combine them). Go through MANY (I speak dozens or hundreds of) pages, opening all or most of the pics, inspecting them thoroughly, selecting the best looking ones, and memorizing what makes them good. If you can't grasp the correct form, save the pic, trace it on a separate layer and then disable the original layer. When you've memorized the expression, copy it N times to train both your visual and muscle memory. N depends on your IQ / memory. The better it is, the less is N.

>>3012297

The pose is really stiff and awkward, like, what the hell is she doing? Fix the connection of the head to the neck.
>>
>>3012118
Well the size of the mouth barely changes in any of these, the overall face shape *never* changes (why are the cheeks not moving at all? Cheeks are soft, cheeks move) and the only real change in the eyes is if the top eyelid comes down by 1/4th, 1/2th, etc. Basically, just not enough change in size or shape between them, and a real lack of cohesion in the faces themselves. If someone's happy their whole face is happy, not just the mouth and eyes.

When exaggerating the hips, you should probably exaggerate the whole area, muscle and fat, thighs, transition from belly, everything.
You seem to have just spaced the trochanters farther apart, which looks more uncanny than it looks sexy with the huge gap in between.
See pic related.

Hey class! Time for some crits! As always you're all a disappointment and I wish you wouldn't draw smut.
>>3012118
Exaggerate the faces more, try simpler expressions first, read the book "Unmasking the Face".
>>3012148
Cute but you're values are all too dark, try getting some more variation between light and shadow. A good way to check is switch on a threshold layer and make sure there's good amount of lights and darks.
>>3012159
Decent rendering, but you're trying to fit the figure into the composition and that's jeopardizing your anatomy. She also doesn't look like she's actually holding her musket.
>>3012172 >>3012218
Sick, looks much better horizontal.
>>3012297
You have an awkward mix of rendering and colored line-art. The composition is boring and it's hard to tell what the emotion and narrative of the piece is.
>>3012667
Pretty good start, silhouette could use a little work. Next time I'd love to see you keep the lines a little cleaner and with more purpose, less scribbles.
>>3012818
Me too.
>>3012826
Looks cool, I'd like to see you push the emotions more, the only one that's working for me is the middle one.
>>3013043
The right figures lower legs connect weird, along with left figure's head is not sitting on her shoulders correctly. Good line quality tho.
>>3013314
Clean up your lines and work at a higher DPI and resize your images before you post.
>>3013364
Some slight problems with anatomy, but otherwise its fine, kind of boring.
>>3013494
This is a warm-up, keep drawing!
>>3013566
How to get a style: git gud at drawing from life, copy your favorite artists, everything you steal put your own spin on it, don't doubt yourself just keep drawing.
>>3013737
Reminds me of Taki and Hilde from Soul Calibur. Cute tho!
>>3013739
Points for the hard perspective but this looks bad. Work on your anatomy be more careful with your lines and varying your line weight. Read more Berserk and actively look at how he draws.

seriously though, you've identified the areas you have issues with (proportions, anatomy) so go deal with those first.
I suggest looking at Proko's videos on mannequinization, which are helpful for breaking bodies into basic 3d shapes. Try apply the same to your drawings.
>>
>>3014726
The hair strands on the top left of the purple hair, and the lower right and the center top of the pink hair, seem a bit too busy and sloppy, and clash with the crispness of the faces. A more graphical approach that simplifies the interior of the hair and saves the harsh lines for the contour of the hair is worth a try.
>>
>>3014763
>>3014846

Don't.

Start with observational drawing. Use line-of-action's website to practice life drawing poses to get a feel for anatomy and positioning. Break up what you see into lines you can emulate onto paper. Don't worry about time limits for now, focus on accuracy and then, over time, speed up your work. Good luck, you can do it, anon. We all start somewhere.

>how to counting head if your character sitting ,squad,or bow?

Find "landmarks" on the body for head lengths.
Number of heads from one major joint to the next. Then you can bend the joints and follow the lengths around the curve.
Works in perspective too. Each head is a box, foreshorten the boxes using perspective construction, then count as normal.

Your lines in the left and right elbow suggest you were unsure where to put them.
All of the suggestions are in the right place, clean up the lines.
You will learn a lot more from this piece if you clean up the sketchy lines and commit to placement.
For example, the right boot's silhouette is correct, but matching the details in perspective will take you to the next level.

Though 2 looks the coolest it doesnt look that much intimidatingg from this angle imo. If i think about intimidating something like 4 semms to fit more, as she looks down on the viewer- Same with 5, though boring she feels way more intimidating.
>>
>>3015438
It looks boring because for it to be intimidating it would look much better from another angle

If this is a camera lens, it's a fisheye.
The head, torso, and jacket have one perspective while the legs have another.
You were on the right track. Her forward knee is placed correctly.
>>
>>3015438
Not really, for something to be intimidating looking from the frogs perspective is pretty much a must.(maybe not AS exaggerated). And my problem with 2 and for that matter also 3 is that they are too close to being on eye lvl.
I also think that 4 is more intimidating because of her left arm sticking out and not being placed on her hip(which is what i like about 5). This shows a lot more aggression, but the way she holds her sword seems kind of bland, which is what I find more exiting in pose 2.
>>3015343
In the end i would go for something like: Angle as low as 5 with pose 4 (or mirrored so its similar to pose 2) but with the sword of 2.
If you use the perspective of 4 (just a little lowered maybe) and the sword position from 2 you get a downward slope with usually instills a bad feeling, while an upward slope isa little bit more positive. Also if the sword is in front you could flesh that one out a little bit more if you have fun doing that.
Hope my opinion helped.

Why are you still whining at critique on a critique board?
Why did you ask for critique if you were gonna ink it regardless?
Why doesn't the perspective in your little red thumbnail match the perspective in your drawing?
How do my 4 lines suggesting the placement of unfinished facial features represent enough to make the statement you made about my faces?
Why is the front face of the right jacket hem visible at that angle?
So, now the torso, legs, and face are frontal but the hair, hat, and jacket are still top-down?
Forgetting the argument, what does my face problem have to do with your perspective problem?

I'd also go with 2, but the angle is a bit too straight-on. Either stick with it but zoom in on her shoulder/expression to enforce the distortion, or put the camera lower, maybe around her crotch, so that she's basically telling you to suck it. Be sure to build her with boxes so that she stays on the ground firm and strong.

And thanks for the blog, lots of good stuff there. I use the same theme c:

This looks like those drug PSA's where the people turn into goo puddles after smoking weed. I recommend you don't start drawing an actual picture until you learn anatomy. At least learn the basic shapes of the ribcage, pelvis, ect. Your picture lacks depth because you don't see these shapes in a 3d space. Literally start drawing 3d shapes like cubes, cones, ect. because it is good practice for perspective.

I'm not saying this to be a dick, but nobody can critique you if you don't put in the effort to learn yourself. Learn anatomy, and git gud.

>I pointed out his error
Except you didn't.
The validity of your statement is dependent upon the quality of your redline.
For example, you place the pelvis based on the position of the left leg. A quality redline would have put the pelvis in the right place based on the torso, and pointed out that the left thigh needed to be re-angled to meet up with it.
That's why a trash redline is unhelpful.
There is no worse critique than an inaccurate or irrelevant one.

Here is one. The green line is there to think around how the hair is placed in space. Shes jumping or in has an excited expression with her body position in one direction but you drew the cape thingy and hair flat as if we're looking onto her in a frontal view. Like if you didn't get both of them to show fully in the shot, rather than accounting for point of view, you'd feel it's off or very important to show as much as possible.

You should not be afraid to conceal things by drawing through so that you know it's correct.

How do you get good line-art?

I just realized I never made my lines really fluctuate, etc.

I'm too constrained by mental rules that aren't worth-a-fuck.

I'm putting down one, solid line of one solid type because that's what easiest to do.

That's why the line-art is sub-standard and shit.

There's not enough freedom. It's too rigid.

In the future, I'd do well to avoid the thought that lines should be solid.

I think you drew the breasts way better on the right, no clue why you did these weird bulges on the left girl tits. Though it feels like you drew the one farther away a bit too big. On both girls actually, though it just might be a mistake on my side. The new design of the little demon looks cool and less generic imo.
Overalli think the design of the newer one is better, but I really dislike her hair. I preferred the more "realistic" hair in the previous version. The newer one kind of looks goofy because it sticks out so much from her head. The head is where I feel the older one was better, the new head looks a little bit too childish in my opinion, cant say for sure why but the old ears looked better and her horns seem to come out of nowhere in the new one. Hope it helps.

>>
>>3018263
Wireframes are just a large number of planes. Fuck. The amount of plainly inaccurate advice here is staggering.
Each face of a polygon is a plane.
As far as how it applies to shadows, anon was on the right track.
Direct light will cast an elliptical shape on any oblique surface. each face of a wireframe is an oblique surface. If you expanded it, you would see an elliptical pool of light, with a major and minor axis defined by the angle of the surface relative to the light. The edge of each shadow on a "wireframe" can be approximated by moving across each surface, from vertex to vertex, always along the minor axis of the ellipse if it were projected onto each surface.
If you're cel shading, there's only 1 edge to chase. Adding more cuts to your cel shading adds more edges, and diffuse shadows or gradients follow the same rules, with an infinite number of "edges"
At a high enough angle, the ellipse will become a parabola, and then a hyperbola after the center of the beam passes parallel. On the shaded surface, the edge of your darkest cel or the dark end of your gradient is at the parallel point, where the cast light would be parabolic. You can do the same thing with the reflected light on the back surface.
>Or you could shitpost "LOL stop drawing fag" and a gif you didn't make.
>fuck off.
>>
>>3018792

Some proper lineart for once, sort of surprised by how fast I'm getting it done. I'll have to fix the collar and look for a few references for the ears and the muscles near the waist.
Was told the nose was looking"potato-ish" so I tried making it smaller, will mess with it a bit since I want more that round, cute, button nose look
>>3015195
I was trying to exaggerate the pose a bit since a lot of my bodies tend to look somewhat stiff but I guess it didn't really pay off, will keep that in mind for the future

Scribble scribble.
Yeah, here's a quick one...
I could just draw a shadow on a cylinder or a ball, but I think you can visualize that yourself.
Areas of direct light are brightest. That's everything perpendicular to the light source. As the surface curves away, the direct light gets dimmer.
The higher the ratio of the ellipse (MA / mA), the dimmer the direct light.
The parabolic point is the end of direct light. That is why the dark edge of the shadow goes there. That's how you set up gradients.
Everything hyperbolic is no longer direct light.
The tank is only partially completed and partially shaded. Just enough to show the point.

Anons like you are the reason it's still worth coming here
>>
>>3018814
Not fluffy enough. Ushankas must be fluffy. I have a similar one (though gray), and I tell you that you need to brush the edges up with your smudge tool.
>>
>>3018794
Stretch an imaginary string across a surface. Keep the string parallel to the minor axis of the light beam. Every shadow line you draw has to be perpendicular to the string at that point.
There's your mesh.
Or, turn the string perpendicular, and slide it across the surface until a line from the origin would touch the string without touching the subject. There's the dark edge of your shadow.
>>
>>3019116
Christ, why would you waste time lining that shit instead of fixing it? You even got a redline.
Nothing's learned from polishing turds.

Go redline something the next time you have block. It can help the redliner as much as the original artist.
Sometimes they're just drawing for fun. I know you can't wrap your head around that. Go grind boxes and "git gud." because all you want to do is impress other people.
>>3019352
False. Cry more. The old masters aren't going to descend from heaven to redline shit on ic. You learn what you can and move on. If it's good it's good, if it's not... Cry more.

That "vow" of yours means you literally have no use here. I'm sorry you stagnated and got frustrated with your shitty work. I'm sorry that grinding memes didn't turn out to be the magic "git gud" shortcut you hoped it would be. There are none of those. I'm sorry you feel obligated to hang around here and spit bile at everyone who will listen because misery loves company and it validates your pathetic existence to rip other people down.
You could try picking up a fucking pencil though. I know it's scary and you're lazy.
Or you could keep staring at your folders full of other people's work until your crushing insecurity convinces you you're better off not even trying.

>>
>>3013314
I'll bite. What I feel when I look at your art is that your artistic decisions seem to be very strongly rooted in what you've seen other artists do. Having influences is normal and beneficial for any artist, but in your case it almost seems like you depend entirely on replicating other anime-like illustrations. One of the giveaways of this is your linework: it has the appearance of being reworked a ton of times in order to achieve "what looks right" according to what you've seen before. The other is your generally weak depiction of anatomy. All of this lends to the inconsistency that you mentioned.

Your best bet is to draw from life, as is so often suggested to anyone - that's because it works. Draw from reference and keep drawing from imagination during your down time.
