If I would host a booru for drawing references, would you use/post there?
For those not familiar with concept of boorus, it's a site with exhaustively tagged pictures. Vast majority of boorus I'm familiar with are for drawn porn, for example https://gelbooru.com. You can go there and search with tags, for example query "1girl long_hair dress" will return pictures with one girl in them, with long hair, in a dress. Of course, as this booru would be for references, we would also do tags like "from_behind", "strong_light", "backlight" and other stuff.
Would there be general interest for maintaining such library? Right now, do you keep your own personal library, or none at all?

i would post there, i like the idea.
but i would probably actually want to just let other people do all the work of uploading and tagging images
I've seen d/ic/ks come together to contribute to something like this in the past. It's also a great chance to waste an afternoon autisming a database (which more people enjoy doing than you'd think)
So yes, go for it anon

Sounds great to me, would contribute from time to time. Not entirely sure about the issue with copyright tho

This sounds great, although most of my refs have been acquired not very legally, I could tag existing refs accurately so that they are useful for artists
>>3011682
I think there's difference between acquiring and distributing, so I'd rather keep it to myself
>>3011616
This sounds like an awesome idea to me. I have a little bit of a library but it's not sorted at all so even with a small amount of stuff it's a hassle to find what I want and I end up just googling what I want anyways. You could call it "Refbooru" or something
>>3011616
This won't be useful without a narrow definition of "reference" and a clear tagging scheme. You're competing with the likes of google images, deviantart, pinterest, etc. They are already useful enough to an illustrator most of the time, despite their huge scope.
>>3011616
Excellent idea. Do it man, with tons of useful references, statues & tutorials.
I dig it.
>>3011616
mate, legit had the same idea. Build it

>If I would host a booru for drawing references, would you use/post there?
I would lurk the shit out of that site. But no, I wouldn't actually post there anything.
>>3011616
2 days passed and I still don't see a link to refbooru.com .
DO IT.
>>3013337
I hosted it on booru.org already, however I have exams coming up so I didn't have time to actually put something on there. I need to put at least few images there to establish tagging scheme, to be consistent.
I wanted to upload at least about 200 pics before releasing it, and tweak the css, but I may just upload few pics to establish the scheme and post it there. I will do so tonight/tomorrow night.
I'd do it if it was just another gelbooru for posting ero art.
Im in

Oh ok, I understand man. (I'm also in the middle of my finals)
Take your time & upload as many useful stuff as possible! References, rendering tutorials, animation tutorials... You name it.
>>3011616
>/ic/ coming together and making something useful for once
I'm astonished.
I've got bunches of sketchbooks and concepts books I've bought and downloaded, so if that serves as reference that I'd be willing to throw it up there and tag it as well. Stuff from Range Murata and Anna Cattish's gumroad.
>>3013923
please do.

>It's also a great chance to waste an afternoon autisming a database (which more people enjoy doing than you'd think)
I know I do, I need some new hdds already
>>3013864
It's about time : this place is all about gitting gud & having gud taste but nothing productive comes out of it? This needs to change...
There's already a pinterest that does this but I'm sure someone would find it useful.

tutorial and reference booru would be amazing anon
DO IT

I just don't get this site. I don't want to sign up for that shitty site, why can't they just let me look at their pictures.
I think that would be a fantastic addition OP, as long as it doesn't get abused
>>3016647
used to be same. to the point where i would inspect element to get rid of the overlay. but yknow what i took a few mins to sign up and just enjoyed using it.
like see all the boards and pin all the shit (except on fb, doesn't always work).
That'd be nice actually.
One can never have enough references sites.
Stick a password on the site and leave the info in the sticky and have it updated every now and then to keep the normies out.
>>3016782
Good idea, even if it's a bit elitist imo.
>>3016990
All it would take is for someone to post it on another board and have it dumped with irrelevant shit. It's happened before on other board boorus
bampu
is this still happening?
We tried this (at least) once in the past for paintings but it didn't really get the critical mass of actual uploaders it needed. It's a lot of effort to establish a good tagging system, either you need some turboautist to do it for everyone or you need everyone to do it. The former puts a lot of work on the guy's shoulders, the latter puts enough work on everyone else's shoulders that lots of people don't bother.

Probably not.
