Hey /ic/, just need your honest opinion and input on this tattoo rough sketch I'm getting, its my first one. Its going to be a lot more detailed but this is the general idea.
I would like to get some honest feedback on whether or not this is awful or decent, and what you believe I should add onto this as I am very new to tattoos.
One of the reasons I am getting this is it relates to my job as an RN.
Its ok.
I would avoid bothering with more detail. Skin as a medium tends not to hold the detail for a long time. Avoid having linework without a clear and defined negative space around it. Over time tattoos spread slightly and if there is not enough empty skin to compensate for this you are going to have areas that are just undefined blobs. Also, avoid long straight lines and circles that wrap. As soon as you twist your arm it will distort.
I know there is some impossibly realistic tattoos out there that look amazing in their photo but as a tattooist myself I make them to last not to only look good for my instagram.
Bold will hold as they say.
DESU though I would just get a rose of no mans land and be done with it though you cant beat the classics.
the eye on the staff seems kinda unnecessary. the geometric stuff in the background, is there a reason for this or just to look cool? you might get bored of it after a while

I actually like the eye but think it could be more stylized. Like a thick lash line and pupil. Could be bigger too, it's size is too similar to the snake heads. Making it bigger could help with eye flow, no pun intended.
First of all, you're using the wrong staff.
Good bye.

I understand that it is not the correct staff to use in historical context, but it is well integrated into the US culture of medicine regardless of whether or not it originated from a mistake.
I do plan on having the other staff on me as well, I just believe this staff looks more aesthetically pleasing.

I dunno, this doesn't seem to conform to the curve of your skin too well...
I made that mistake designing a tattoo for a friend in highschool. Looked good on paper, not so good on a curved, constantly shifting arm.

i would make the eye much bigger and the triangle on the bottom smaller this will give u a much better overall design
