>draw all my life
>spend 12+ hours a day drawing
>doing commissions 24/7 for the past 5 years
>McDonalds burger flippers on minimum wage make more then me
Why did I fall for the artist meme?
I wish I listened to my parents and studied instead of wasting my time with this shit.
>>
No you don't.
>>
thats why i work at mcdonalds AND draw .
>>
>>3004341
Why do you charge so low for commissions?
>>
>>3004346
Because artists of the similar level have similar prices, the main difference is it takes me days to finish a piece while those fuckers shit them out on a daily basis.
>>
>>3004341
What do you like more: drawing, mcDonalds, or money.

Pick one and be happy you can't have everything.
>>
>>3004351
Actually, I rescind my previous statement.

Pick money, then eat at McDonald's and have enough money to draw without worrying about being paid.
>>
>>3004350
Well then you shouldn't blame your profession for your inability to perform it at an adequate speed. If McDonalds hired a worker who'd take days to prepare 1 burger, they'd be fired immediately, so you can be glad that as freelance artist at least no one can fire you.
>>
>>3004357
mcdonlads will never fire anyone because they dont want to pay them unemployment, its nearly impossible unless you do something really serious.
>>3004351

actually you can, mcdonalds has a flexible schedule making system. get on closing the store and you can pretty much work as much or as little as you want. and you usually wont have to be there until 4pm or later so that means you can stay up the whole night drawing and sleep at like 7am and make it to work the next day
also you can just take food when you are working for free (if you are in good with the managers this is no big deal) this helps save money for you as well. if you set it up right you can get paid and still draw for many hours a day it just takes a little setting up.
and then if you think your not gonna make it you cand just move up to manager immediately if you have put time in and know your stuff. (but dont become a manager unless you have to because its bullshit from every one i knew who became one.
>>
>>3004364
Put this in the sticky. Most useful advice ever posted
>>
>>3004364
I applied to a mcdonalds near me and never heard back from them. I live with my parents off a major highway and it's like 90 percent mexican. should I just keep applying? I can't imagine I'm less qualified then most people working there.
>>
>>3004416
keep applying and call the back every now and then. as long as you have a good work ethic and do your job (which is not hard compaired to some of the people i work with) you should be good once you get hired.

>>3004392
glad you think so. i think its a pretty good plan for the most part if you have no objections to working in a situation like that. (it can be annoying some times but if you have a few people that you can talk to its not hard most of the time.) you can even draw while you are there if you have a bunch of down time when you arent busy because if you are closer all your work comes at the end of the night and you can get the underlings to do your job by delegation most of the time. just be good at making sandwiches. which if you have any sense shouldn't be a problem.
(it may take a few months to make them feel like they need you enough to pull this off)
seriously though try it out if you need money. i like to stay in the grill section so i dont have to talk to the customers or interact with people i dont know, customers can some times be assholes is the only thing most everyone i have ever worked with is very nice . its not like what they say it is most of the time unless you have just an outright asshole as a boss which has never happened to me , i liked all my bosses and they all respect me and let me and the other closer do pretty much whatever we want because we actually work unlike most of the people that are there.
>>
>>3004416
also if possible it helps to know someone who works there already or have a reference of some sort.
>>
>>3004350
> the main difference is it takes me days to finish a piece while those fuckers shit them out on a daily basis.

So why the fuck can't you shit them out on a daily basis?
>>
>>3004357
This.

I make 1000€ a month on what's essentially 2 hours of work per day with my commisions. The rest of my time I spend studying and improving. How can you be such a fuckup OP?
>>
>>3004452

How the fuck do you do that
>>
>>3004454
I grabbed a good client who is paying me 150€ per piece on a long term project. One piece takes me around 6 hours to complete, so I break it up into 3 days. So long as I meet his monthly deadline, it's all good.
>>
>>3004452
>1000€ with 2 hours of work per day
Found the inflation loli vore diaper artist
>>
>>3004457
Nope. Never drawn porn, never will desu.
>>
>>3004455

What kind of work is it? How did you land the gig?
>>
Why won't you apply for work in a studio something? There are tons of work you can do esp if have 5 years of commissions already.
>>
>>3004598

Do studio jobs like that still exist? My dream is to be like that artist dude from Mad Men, just being an art wage slave in an office.
>>
>>3004594
Networking. Once you have contacts within various industries, finding work is easy as fuck. Plenty of companies outsource work toward independent artists for long term projects.

I can't say anything else, NDA.
>>
>>3004341

and idiots like you get mad when I tell them they're never gonna make it
>>
>>3004341
You're an idiot. I studied for 4 years and six months out of college I'm making about 18 dollars an hour on commissions.
>>
>>3004607
post work
>>
>>3004607
But first sucking the dick from the guy who pay you. After you swallow his cum, he will pay you for your work, that 100 other artists could make it better.

>exposed
>>
>>3004600
>I can't say anything else, NDA.

It's an anonymous imageboard.
>>
Commission are shit. Get a studio job.
>>
>>3004632
I would never rely solely on art to make me a living. I'd get a degree in something else, keeo drawing, make a comic, get a job with that degree, network, keep working, then see where art takes me. Too many bloody artists in this world. And too many of them better than me, after all these years. Need a backup plan.
>>
>>3004672
ngm, not with that attitude at least. Less competition though, I suppose.
>>
>>3004351
>you can't have everything

except there are people that do retard. It's just atypical.

>>3004460
It actually makes me smile to see this. While it seems like it would be fun to do at first people that do porn are glorified hookers with no shame and nobody respects them, no matter hoe good they are at loomis heads. Good luck OP.
>>
>>3004364
But isn't unemployment paid for through taxes which are already paid by businesses? So why should McDonald's care whether they need to fire a moron?
>>
>>3004696
>hoe good

Is that a pun?
>>
>>3004341
>drawing porn for furries from deviantart instead of getting an actual job as an artist in a real company
>>
>>3004599
>Do studio jobs like that still exist?
god who do you think makes all the art and design work for huge industries like video games and movies?
>>
>>3004364
I call bs or I work at the crappiest McD ever. No time to draw unless on your break. And you only get free food as your work day meal. Closest I really get is occasionally getting drinks or food not by the book allowed as part of the free meal or something small as a prize. Doesn't help it's a 24hrs location.

At this point i envy OP and would rather spend a little extra time drawing rather than work at this hellhole.

Anyway, OP. You just need to work on speed and you'll be like your competition. Get loose and push how fast you can draw something without being a perfectionist. You'll probably get a bigger following as your output increases.
>>
>>3004341
>works 12+ hours a day
>>3004350
>still slow as shit with all that practice

op maybe you should grab a part time job, halt your commissions and use the off time to learn how to draw faster. Because I have no clue how the fuck you aren't turning a profit working that often and doing commissions that frequently
>>
>>3004787
im not sure reallly ,i just know its REALLY hard to get fired for some reason because we get away with a lot of shit in there.
>>3004896
sounds like you just work for a shitty mcdonalds, mine is a private franchise version and not the corporate one so maybe that has to do with it.
and on the free food thing you kinda have to have some nerve to start doing it. i do it so often that the managers just see me walk out with the food and dont care. and yeah the 24 hour thing may fuck it up as well.
this was my experience with them though. i also work for 7 days in a row and i get off for 7 days in a row as part of my art schedule.
>>
Well, show your work.

>>3004341
>my dream is to make a living through my art, my skills are not even that good

How the fuck are you so slow after drawing 12 hours a day for years? Even if your art skills aren't that great you should've at least gotten insane speed for drawing that much.

You could work on something that doesn't make you starve to death drawing stuff you don't even like

While drawing what you actually want in your free time
>>
>>3004341
If you've been drawing that long you should hypothetically be decent at it. Have you actually tried applying for a job that uses said skills? There are alternatives to the freelance route, you know.
>>
>>3005116
Yeah just sounds like I have bad luck and got a shitty, probably corporate location. I don't really have the balls to steal food though, I feel like I'd actually be fired.
Your schedule is interesting. We're not allowed to take a full week without days off.
>>

obviously you don't know what similar level means.
they are just better than you.

i dont know how i pulled off getting that kind of schedule . no one else i work with has it like that . i think its because they are moderately afraid of me lol. i dont back down talking shit when something is wrong there and they know i know how to make explosive devices , although i dont know why they think i would use them just making stuff like that is very dangerous and i like having my hands haha. i have also been there longer than most of the people working there. but i think having them think you are borderline dangerous helps lol.

Do many painting at once. That way after a couple days u got 2 or more finished instead of one.

Think about it this way. If you make less than a McDonald's worker should u put in as much effort. Cause your time should be worth something to u.
>>
>>3007850
how you keep yourself from getting sucked into one painting? i wanted to do this but i have problems switching between the two . i just get too wrapped up in one after a while.

I imagine OP is that guy on DA charging $50 for some chibi shit, then complains about rude "customers" saying their commissions are taking days to receive.

For the last fucking time, the best job is either some form of receptionist, sitting guard ( in front of screens), IT (the in office sys admin type) or Call centering (not sales, not short burst interaction based).

Any job with a level of detachment to the public, downtime or voice only activity and at a desk works better than fucking mcdonalds.

Plus the rates are 14, 19, 20(no education)-35(education), 12(no experience)-27(experience) in that order, IE you can go part time and make more.

Why the fuck you're advocating working at a literal mcdonalds is beyond me and you should be fucking ashamed of leading people down that path unironically.
>>
Not op but literally the same situation with me. For me, I draw slow as hell because I'm disabled and have a mobility problem with my hand and wrist. It's getting worse as I get older so I'm just getting slower at drawing, despite doing it from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Fml I'm on SSI at $740/months with a bf who barely works and I'm support both of us. I usually always run out of money and have to ask my folks or beg for scrap change with drawing a $3 chibis that takes me 1-2 days to complete. I draw non stop every day and I swear it's killing me slowly.

They wanna kick me off SSI soon but yet keep my disabled label so that it's legal for employers to give me half the minimum wage. I'd be getting even less money than and that would probably actually kill me from starvation or getting homeless or something...but that's the goal of the NWO. I'm disabled so I'm an undesirable in the eyes of society and government. Please help me.
>>
>>3009204
A man that leeches from someone disabled is no man. I would start by cutting him off. People either elevate you or drag you down.

If you're a girl, you could just start a patreon. Don't draw per piece if you're disabled. You need passive income.
>>
>>3004364
Wtf I love McDonald's now
>>
>>3009210
I am female. Can you give me more detail on how I can do a patreon please? I have no idea due to how long it takes me to draw... I can't churn out a lot quickly, and it would stress me out to fill the rewards each month due to not having a lot to offer.

As for my bf... I am tired as hell with constantly giving him money, but the problem is that I feel worthless and like a nobody bc of my disabilities, having no job, not being able to drive, being on EBT, section 8, and SSI. I feel like I don't deserve much...I've had past lovers and their friends and family make that very clear to me. I even allowed myself to get physically abused for a year+ from an ex.

The guy I'm with now has honestly been the only person in all my 32 years to show me any kind of respect and not use me sexually...just financially. Even my friends and family don't really give me respect and degenerate me.

I know my place, and I've learned a long time that beggers can't be choosey.
>>
>>3009096
it is ideal to be a security guard or something similar but what if you cant get a job like that. mcdonalds is better than nothing but i would say its a last effort. thats all i'm saying and its working out alright for me so far and has been for a while. my schedule is perfect.
>>
>>3009204
>girl
>homeless

:^) It's time for you to have an accident
>>
>>3009244
Fucking job hop faggot mcdonalds is the journey not the destination.
>>3009242
wait wtf why are you funding your bf if you're the poor one?
>>
>>3009242
Look, just start streaming on twitch or picarto or other place like that. You're a girl so you'll instantly get an audience. Not being a cynic, that's just how things are. Don't show your face, your voice is enough.

It doesn't even matters how fast or how good you are at art. People really just want you to be a friend.

Tell people your story and open up a patreon. Don't worry about rewards or tiers or crap like that. It's just a donation system. You'll get money.
>>
>>3009242
As for your friends and family, remember this. You're the average of the 5 people you interact the most with.

You can only respect yourself as much as your peers do. You can only love yourself as much as your peers love you. You can only be as motivated as your peers are.

Cut them. There will always be more people.

I also have some disabilities, but I know that the only thing holding me back is having to drag other shitty people with me. Having to deal with THEIR insecurities that I felt were mine.
>>
>>3009249
How will people find me if I don't have any social media following? 30 on Facebook, and 58 on Instagram. I had an rp tumblr with nearly 2k followers and I posted pictures of myself a lot, and every time I tried to ask for more than $5 for a commission I'd get crickets. I tried a lot of times to advertise my Instagram on tumblr, and I only got 1 follwer out of 2k. The only reason I have that many was because I pissed off a couple sjws and I used to do free art for people. My inbox was constantly flooded with requests, but no one was ever willing to pay.

Also, I'm so poor that I have a laptop from 2002 with Windows XP running photoshop 7. I had been trying to save on the side for a new laptop, but I can never because my boyfriend constantly getting my laptop fund for his bills. I hate it.

But yeah Windows XP can't stream, and if I can manage to get it running with pictaro, it freezes within ten minutes because it's too much for it to handle.
>>
>>3009280
Artists tend to promote each other. You're not competition anyways. Just ask someone relatively popular to give you a shoot out. Ask reddit. They love to make stories like this go viral. Definitively stay away from here.

I was also using a shitty PC with XP until last year. It sucks, but you have to understand that this is exactly why you need to cut people off. They become bottlenecks. Sometimes just $20 is enough to make a difference in your life, and they will still take that away from you.
>>
>>3004460
If you don't draw weird stuff and still make as much, you got all my respect.
