L-Loomis == ISIS?!?
>>

it's good for exactly that. if you've got a good grasp on proportions already hampton is a suitable alternative. other good authors are bridgman and bammes, but I'd work through loomis first if you're just starting out

So if i'm literally just starting with circles and shapes I can use loomis?

it's definitely a great book to pick up. not the be all end all though. his techniques contradict themselves sometimes but this book will show you step by step how to make attractive marketable faces. it's a lot more fun and less clinical than other approaches I've seen which makes it easy to breeze through the exercises.
the only problem is that it does show it's age and you'll get tired of drawing 1940s middle aged anglo white men.

i wouldn't recommend it, but sure. try it and see if you make improvements. generally i suggest people who are still struggling with basic line exercises to draw from life instead of learning from books. it teaches you to measure if done correctly. when you are already good at estimating proportions and have a steady hand books will be easier to work through

as for the subject matter - draw whatever you want, but draw from life

It's good, go ahead

just don't make it your holy bible, it's meant to be just reference, you don't have to build those exact proportions every single time
