I'd honestly say niche + availability + originality. I think anyone can muscle their way into any niche if their quality is good. Pornhub has more content than anyone will ever watch, and keeps adding more. If people can watch 100s of amatuer blowjobs, there''s room for anyone in porn art.

By availability, yes, it's important to produce content regularly and often. Probably more important than anything else.

And by originality, I mean that there's a lot of unexplored territory in lots of fetishes. If you have any niche fetishes and are a creative person there's probably a huge list of things you can imagine but just haven't seen anyone draw. Not because people have and you just haven't found it. Even now there are a lot of fetishes that are very underdeveloped in content, quality, and variety. Being able to do things people haven't seen before in a quality they haven't seen before will count for a lot.

It's a personal decision. Rebecca Sugar drew fandom porn and made Steven Universe, the most beloved western media for weeaboos since Homestuck (Say what you want about it, it's POPULAR and that's the only thing that matters if you want to make money off your art).

You can absolutely do both porn and clean art. Some people make separate sites/blogs for each for the convenience of fans but it's not necessary to hide it unless you want to or need to (ex: having family that google you and find your shit too easily).

Me, I don't really care if people know I draw porn. It still took some level of skill to make and if people like it, i'm still proud to stand by my work, especially if i have something to show for it.
