If you wanted to draw sexy anime girls, why aren't you doing that right now?
B-...because I CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN'T!
I have no ideas at the moment. Good taste though.
B-but I want to draw sexy anime boys, anon....
i cant even draw sexy girls, how am i supposed to draw sexy anime girls?
Because realism forces you to learn art fundamentals first. Stylizing can often hide your flaws, which can lead you to stagnate. Nothing wrong with mostly drawing stylized stuff but you when study you should try and practice in a realistic style to really drive the concepts in your brain

But why not? Nothing wrong with being dedicated to your craft, anon.
Because I fell for the git gud meme.
Drawing skill is meaningless if you can't write. I thought that if I just learned to draw all these cute anime girls and scenarios would somehow come to life before my eyes. All I can do is create 3D shapes that resemble characters.
That's not characterization. That's not writing motivations or dialog. That's not stories.
If you can only draw but not write, you're just an art whore, creating other's ideas.
I have been trying to learn to write but there are 12 year old fanfiction-writing tumblrinas with more writing experience than me.

the fuck are you talking about. if they wanted they probably could. no one starts off just drawing boxes and works there way to manga, you need some gesture and anatomy practice. that doesn't necessarily entail learning how to do perfect rendering of the muscle structure but you need some of it.

You're right. No anime artist can draw anatomy at all. All those different contours, shapes and overlapping from the neck down are completely random. look at this god taste
I feel like I could, but it would take way longer than what it should because I would have to double check perspective, anatomy, figure, etc before doing anything, and after only 30 minutes later I feel like I'm wasting my time and go back to studying from books/videos/practice
Does anyone know how to get around this feeling? Drawing feels a lot like a drag because I want to draw what I want but don't, and when I do I can't because I feel like I should be "working".
>>2946217
Drawing is just putting the ideas in your head on paper.
Fundies are there so that you can become good at the technical stuff which will allow you to focus on the bigger picture, the things that make your drawings look cool.
As long as you are actually trying hard to depict your ideas instead of just mindlessly doodling, I don't see any problem.
>>2946498
desu i think people should be encouraged to draw from observation and intuition long before a proper study of fundamentals. otherwise you're grinding away at what you don't want to do without context.
>>2946515
It's not really something that can be encouraged from what I've seen, the people who already do it are the people who generally draw and want to get better.
>>2946515
I sort of consider drawing from observation a fundamental. Being able to make 2D measurements is obviously useful when studying references and taking notes of details increases your visual library.
When you say drawing from intuition you just mean drawing whatever you want right? Whether it's from imagination or reference?
If so, I agree with you there. The problem is that most people who start late want to get good fast and they don't want to spend time drawing "the wrong way".
>>2945965
Sauce?
>>2946535
intuition means to figure stuff out on your own by doing, regardless of the subject. it will be reiterated or refined when going through a fundamentals course.

I think you're overestimating Hampton, for one. His personal work sucks and every drawing has the same neanderthal face-he doesn't even get into deep anatomy; there is little that separates Hampton's book from something like the "How to Draw Manga" series which also features superficial anatomy and construction whether they call it that or not. Anatomy and construction are tools that are clearly in use for every picture you've posted whether done well or not. If you think you can do without it then go ahead, post your no-anatomy no-construction drawings for us to admire while you're at it. .

>>2954823
>Also talent isn't real but I'm not gonna argue anyfurther.

>>2954499
Yes. Copying is fundamental to learning art. I've read a lot of biographies of highly skilled illustrators and a common theme is that they all started out by copying and imitating comic books etc. It's also how I learnt, and continue to learn. I'm a professional freelance artist for what it's worth.
Consider the distinction between copying and imitation. You want to do both. Copying is when you literally copy the shapes and lines from the art that inspires you. Imitation is when you attempt to make your own art but in the same or similar style to the art that inspires you. You need to copy to expand your visual library and imitated own works to apply it.
Parallel to all of that is to learn construction and life drawing.
>>2954107

It says a lot about how pathetic and insecure you are, when you automatically assume people only believe in talent because they don't have it. Grow up.
To claim that talent isn't real is absolutely insane. I can't even imagine how fucking stupid you have to be to deny that people are born with different innate abilities and different potential. It's evident in all other areas of life, so why not art? What, did nature make all people different except in this one field? The idea that people are a blank slate at birth has been thoroughly debunked.
You're like a religious zealot denying evolution.

Keep making up excuses.
If you're not fit and athletic it's because your parents didn't instill you a love for sports, competition and strict discipline at an early age. If you're not "naturally" good at art it's exactly the same. There are no virtuosos, only good parents and tutors.
What is real and can be innate, however, are illnesses. Unless you were born blind, retarded or suffer crippling and cronic pain. The only thing stopping you from being as good as any is yourself, you fucking loser.

>The only thing stopping you from being as good as any is yourself, you fucking loser.
Again, what kind of loser do you have to be if you think this is the only reason to believe that talent exists? People can believe in things without using it as an excuse, you pathetic rat.
I do have talents, including math, language and musical ability. I have terrible work ethics, but despite that I got better grades than most of the people in my class throughout school and college, while doing only a fraction of the work that they did. The only thing that I had to put any effort into were classes that required rote memorization.
Saying that talent exists doesn't mean it's an on/off switch, or that it's impossible to get good without talent. It's like a bell curve. Most people are average, but can get good if they work hard enough. Some people are shit and can never become good, while others are very talented and improve at an exponential rate.
It's really not difficult to understand, and you'd have to be an absolute moron to believe all humans are clones with the same potential.
>If you're not fit and athletic it's because your parents didn't instill you a love for sports, competition and strict discipline at an early age.
Except my brother loves sports and competition, while I hate it. I still lift weights and run, but that's mostly a quality of life issue, because my work and hobbies involve a lot of sitting.
