If you are a /beg/inner in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Well, this time the image is too big. You should resize it to half of its size.

You're focusing on 2D shape and latin names when you should be focusing on function and form. Muscles are powerful 3D shapes that pull bones, if your studies don't get that idea across, they are not very beneficial.

Read the sticky. If you're an absolute beginner, then gesture is the least of your problems. You should first start off with life drawings. Read Keys to Drawing by Bert Dodson, do the exercises, then move on to perspective, gesture, anatomy, etc. If you can't draw a person in front of you, how can you expect to draw it from imagination?

Foreshortening problems: poses like this are the freakin hardest for me. I decomposed it into boxes and got it up to the pelvis... but then i look at her right leg (the extremely foreshortened one) and have no idea what to do.

started learning proper figure drawing yesterday. starting with gesture, these are my first ever.

any pointers moving forward? glaring errors?

i am not sure where to draw the line bw gestural line of action and contours. i noticed in some examples by proko and hampton they indicate the flesh of a calf, for example, with two contour lines, instead of a single "gesture" line. i am guessing it's still ok? as long as these quasi-contours still reflect the character of the gesture?

the boxes are fundamentally incorrect and indicate a lack of training in perspective. the ellipses only prove the point further - the degrees are wrong for the angles at which they are viewed.

ANYONE can chicken-scratch out a halfway ok box. what that doesn't mean is that you understand the thought process necessary to use them correctly.

having looked a bit harder, i agree about the boxes. solution is drawabox and 3d space exercises.

Scott robertson's how to render will teach you how to fix the problem. Also remember a change in plane is a change in value and since the face has many planes you will have more values than what you have. you understand basic concept of shadows and how they are on planes facing away from the light but you still need to study more (reflected light, core shadow, how different hues have different greyscale values even on the when on same brightness, hue shifting, ambient light, etc.

I think it might help if you maybe put a thin border of slightly a slightly more saturated and lighter version of your shadow color in between the shadow and the light area. Also, if the hand is being lit that much from the front then her hand should have a lot more light than what you have there.

It looks much better. Everyone starts with this problem, they always make the hands and feet much smaller than they actually are. Feet have to be long and triangular to support our weight.

If you love drawing waifus, then draw waifus.

Fill a book with them. Draw different positions, different shading. Different volumes and different numbers of lines.

Each time you do it right, take a note and keep going.

If you get bored, draw muscly waifus.

Ew. 3d disgusting.
What I was going for is this, if we remove the hair and most of the shading, but:
1) My construction was incorrect from the beginning and the lines are wobbly, to add to that.
2) I stopped caring about these lines after I started rendering.
3) I myself don't clearly understandthe exact angle I wanted to show. I think I wanted to make her glance at the viewer who's about 30 degrees to the left of her head's direction...

The outcome is only natural, I guess. Btw, disregard the "jawline", it's just a leftover from the hair.

I wonder what would be more productive: trying to fix the face in this or leaving it be as a memorial to my mistakes. Both worked for me in the past.

>>
>>2941996
Verticals are straight down in one point perspective (when your eyesight is parallel to the ground), when you look up or down verticals start to converge somewhere above/below horizon line.
If instead of looking up in sketchfab you'd hold middle mouse button and move up/down there would be no vertical convergence, since you will be still looking straight ahead

Yesterday I took a dump, a mighty behemoth of a turd and lord did it stink. Yet I fished a single colossus hunk of fecal matter from the toilet and ported it onto a plate. Not just any plate, my good china. I set the table elegantly and began to play classical music from my expensive but tasteful sound system.

Then I sat down to my turd, my glorious shit and began by inhaling it's delicate scent. It smelled like poop. Turning it over with my hands, not wanting to waste it on mere silverware, I inspected every crevice of my veritable Mount. Shitmore, yet where the faces of Presidents might have been there were only corn kernels and the occasional undigested bean. The beans and corn kernels I set aside for later use. Delicately, I tore a small portion of waste and smeared it across my lips so as to give myself shit lips. Then I took the remaining dooky, fashioned it into a cylinder not entirely dissimilar to a shit dildo and began to fellate it. Each time the poop graced my tongue I was greeted with a foul taste that could only be described my fecal matter.

Finally I could take no more of the foul substance. I had to have it. As Beethoven's Ode to Joy reached a mighty crescendo so too did I as I stuffed the log into mouth and swallowed, pissing my pants in joy as I did so. I blacked out in happiness and the memory of this event was blurry forever after and yet it seemed that before I had fallen into a restful slumber I had updated my journal. Carefully, I opened it and read the days entry detailing what it was that I had done. I was appalled until I found a single entry that described the event:

>It was good for what it was

Analyse your mistakes. With your left blook, the facial features are not vertically aligned with each other though they are horizontally.

The heads must be drawn as basic 3d shapes FIRST. Ellipses must be used to keep facial features aligned in perspective.

This all requires approximation. Remember that all the lines that curve around the blooks face are just ellipses

I think that's a fair middle ground because so many anons around here dish out tipps but never show their capabilities. I know you don't need to me Loomis level to give tipps but generally I think knowing the other person at least a tiny bit helps and all... just for perspective reasons.

Pretty barebone - you should use a reference for now. Trees are a beautiful thing to draw: You can use the roots to pierce the ground and make some moss crawl up there - the branches can create a beautiful labyrinth and extent anywhere helping you to forge interesting depths and tunnels for your audience. There are so many more details to trees - The outside of the leafs should be really light while the inner parts are dark and all in all treees can be beautiful value studies.

So really - give it more depth and remember trees life in three dimensional space.

I don't know if this is a meme or not. The colours are horrible - there's some form to the figure and you drew something in one point perspective.

Give us more to work with.
>>
>>2942771
Nah senpai, "Too Much for you" is a meme made by shitters to get you to stay on thier levels. Now, I'm no talented artist but I've learned plenty of other things on a more than average level and the first thing I learned was that you go first into somthing that seems to difficult because it's what you want and you will keep working at it. Nobody improves thier game by playing against shitty players, you go for those better than you and learn what doesn't work so you can stop doing it faster. I'm also a bit confused as to how you would seek to improve 5 second gestures, not 30.

Wait what? None of this post has any relevance to what it's a reply to, are you projecting? And on top of that you're implying your time has intrinsic value that anyone else should give a shit about. Post your work or neck yourself you kumquat avocado bitchcake.
>>
>>2942784
That's far more helpful. Are you generally into scenery drawings? Right now what I miss the most ( besides the usual haha fundamentals) is a concept - where do you want your audience to look at - you are not guiding the spectator through the image - hope this video will help you with what I mean. https://youtu.be/1McYZX6KScg

Besides that I'm not really a scenery artist - still I'd suggest to take a look into the FAQ - especially perspective and forms - you've already proven with the human in the other picture that you generally know what these things are - but a fresh up wouldn't hurt.

Also looks at refs and how light hits an object bounces off and where shadows are created - why and how.
>>
>>2942788
I've already posted my work more than once here - thank you anon >>2942699 . The reason you came here is to get tips - the girl is missing any kind of form - and this is not a gesture drawing anymore. Her right lower leg is too long her left arm is too long as well and so on. She feels weighless - that's why I'm saying take your time with references - learn weight distribution and the keystones of construction.

There is no reason to be this childishly hostile - and yes I value my time - tough I'm just waiting for my shift to end - I don't get why people post here if they don't expect criticism.
>>
>>2942790
no I'm not generally scenery guy. i started reading perspective made easy so I've been trying to practice some of that stuff. thanks for the advice ill check out that video and try again

>I don't get why people post here if they don't expect criticism.
Hyphenated run on sentences aside, you seem to confuse critique with criticism, any shitposting counts as criticism, this post here that I'm replying to right now is a critique, albeit one I plan to ignore as I disagree but still, far more valuable than
>>2942771
As it was plainly stated, "Just gonna share this exercise I decided to spend my evening on" thus the assumption that a critique was wanted in the first place was projecting in and of itself (Just because -I- only post for critique everyone else must as well, regardless if they say otherwise and if they do, well they just aren't posting for the correct reason). Secondly the poorly constructing and logically flawed straw-manning of
>>2942787
combined with the closing of, "so I won't waste my time on you again. Thanks a lot." seemed to indicate a general disregard for civil posting. Hence the 'childish hostility' (glass houses much?). And finally, long posts are both obnoxious and a waste of time since-
A. Nobody cares, you're going to glance over this, disregard any points I made or just summarize them as being 'wrong' since anything else requires a thoughtful reply and/or admitting you are flawed, both unlikely to happen. (inb4 'i have no problem admitting flaws but -insert blah blah here-)
B. Even if they do care, 4chan an indeed written forums in general are poorly suited for intellectual discussion as they facilitate hasty alt-tabbing and poor research methods, as well as using obtuse language to hide valid points.

Learn how the shapes look/work on their own.
Try drawing cubes and spheres on their own then work on putting them together.

The shapes you're using for the nose, cheeks and chin look very flat.

Also a lot of your features don't line up.
Draw some straight lines across to make sure the ears, eyes, cheeks, etc. line up.
>>
>>2942911
that's fine, try it with a different line drawing, something that you like the look of, try to concentrate on the lines and their relationship to eachother and ignore the picture. the point of the exercise is really just to show you that you're physically capable of making a pretty good drawing.

I think the Loomis method is practically useless if the only underlying construction you consider is the cranium, just that sphere that has redacted, flat sides.

While what you're doing is totally viable it's unlikely you're actually going to remember how this particular head is formed. To da that: you need to learn the Reilly method. Look up some videos concerning Frank Reilly; it'll teach you how to properly consider some elements that are behind here such as iterating the cheekbone and discovering how far back the eye is pushed into the socket

Keep the center of vision consistent when you're adding more vanishing points.

eg If you have a set of 2pp VPs and a set of 3pp VPs in your illustration, don't make the mistake of placing them in such a way that creates 2 distinct center's of vision in your picture. Both sets of VPs must share the same center of vision.
>>
>>2943078
yeah but if you add a background it may look really dope and the highlights in the face will profit from it .

The previous version of the bath looked better, but your anatomy improved considerably. Just fix the perspective, then make the leg sleeker, and finally check the position and the orientation of your eyes and eyebrows... and, I suppose, we can consider this a proper lineart.
