Because pretty much every cartooning style is incorporated in those categories or is a mixture of them. I mean, any western stylization is tumblr according to /ic/ anyway.

"Sin City" indeed is regular comic book style. I think you should also add "Black Hole", "Acme Novelty Library", "Exit" and some Manara or "XIII" and put on top of it early "Hellblazer", because it's all the same shit and pretty regular, mainstream style.

There are some french comic artists with a more minimalistic approach but I have no clue what their names are. Whenever I browse through my comic store of choice for some reason especially those comics strike me as different in style.

But Martin Rowson definitely doesn't adhere to any of the contextual categories, but despite him not being aforesaid in these deviations his style and exaggeration in caricature has become massively influential for political cartooning. Someone pointed out their interest in one of the cartoons he made for the Red Chilli Pepper newspaper we were reading, so I'm assuming it's appealing. Tony Husband is another good example, venerated and promoted by celebrities such as Steven Fry

If you mean cartooning in a graphic novel format: research Steffen Kverneland. Anecdotally: I'm interested in his work, particularly his graphic biography of Edvard Munch. Also: Mariko Tamaki's work: "Skim"

Thorgal by Rosiński is pretty cool. Maybe a bit old-school by today's standards, but for me it only adds a charm to it. Van Hamme also made very nice narrative to it, I love the mythical/medieval/fantasy blend with some light science-fiction cross-over.
