Is is better to work small or really big?

What is your preference /ic/?

I work small because fucking comics, I would copy them 1:1 scale as a kid. I tend to draw with my fingertips because of it.
>>
>>2907727
Often times at both extremes it is just a gimmick. Do whatever is most comfortable for you though.

Big, we all know size matters.
>>
>>2907731
Isn't it harder to keep your proportions and perspective in check if you work big?
>>

small for learning

I can only work small, like a4 or smaller.

Not digitally

idiot.

Draw large when first learning. Especially for pen control. Drawing from the shoulder gives you better lines due to a larger arc of movement. But you need the space to use that in.

start 11x14in

Digitally always big. Making a big drawing smaller is orders of magnitude easier than making a small drawing bigger.

Traditionally I'd say it's circumstantial. Depends on how much time you have, how much space you have, where it's going, etc.

Either on paper or digitally I always tend to draw small like the the right part of the pic, or around that size, because bigger means harder for me pretty much since it feels harder to keep track of stuff. Is this bad for learning? Should I just force myself to draw bigger?

Beats me man.

I think that drawing small is for designing and generally when you're not sure how to draw something.

And drawing big is for execution and professional work.

10/10 only useful post.

Taught in college ( free credits wasn't interested in art yet. ) .... Taught to draw huge with shoulders, even in sketchbooks. WTF did they teach me, ffs, fuck art schools / college courses on art.

Two years ago. Made more progress than I ever did in college, or shown by "experts" I draw with my elbow when I want to make large sweeping lines, which is hardly ever.

I draw on a 15.6inch digital screen xp-pen 16inch artist table cause anyone cares. Shoulder motions are too large for it. Can't imagine small screens or the screen-less drawing pads. Most I use is elbow.

90% of the time I draw with my wrist, fingers, as I can just enlarge, zoom-out what have you instead of trying to draw like a madman on a 20x30 sheet of paper.

This too, useful. I ALWAYS draw small thumbnails for any drawing I'm about to start. Even if I fuck it up so bad a high school could possible have done better. At least, I tried to get a sense of what I want to make and jot it down instead of just making a bunch of ginger bread people flinging poo everywhere.
