1. Photoshop's liquify is such a great tool: I've tried the equivalent in every other program there is, and nothing still comes close to its fine control

2. Pretty sure the mercenary guy's head (and body) is square-ish because the author intended it to be so. He probably even used the liquify tool to polish the details

What does the liquify tool do?

basically lets you nudge around pixels, either pushing them over slightly or making them a bit bigger or smaller. just try it out. it only works on one layer at a time though, so flatten your image first.

also you should get your proportions right before digitalising if you really wanna be a good artist

That's a pretty solid photo copy. I just made some small adjustments, nothing too crazy. I'm trying to keep the overall essence of the drawings/paintings.

Narrowed the torso and forearm a bit, added some more volume to his leg, and moved his ear and eye a bit. I'm not even sure if it's anatomically correct, but I think it looks kind of better.

that would be changing her natural face features in my humble opinion. Also, that is an already perfect painting, so there isn't much we could twich wothout losing sharpness. Maybe using the sharpness tool itself, but I'm too lazy.

I decided to narrow her neck a bit and change her head position very lightly so it doesn't look like a forced model pose. Also added some camera raw filter to make it pop a bit. Again, nothing too crazy since I'm just a beginner.
