Are there any resources on how to make and design appealing and stylized cartoons for animated features and the like? I really want to know how to jump into that field.
Cartoons as in, characters, but not for concept/illustration. More like for animation- I'm sure a visual library for example would very much help, but I'm wondering what to practice that's directly in making the character designs fit in with their worlds.
These two aren't the best references, since it's still putting a big focus on illustration, but the vibe of the "designs" are there.
For instance, the stylized hair in the second character is something I wouldn't have thought about or seen in life references.

Instead of going for those, try;

Paul Richards has written a lot about his thoughts on design in general and how to approach thinking about art, its probably some of the best information you'll get.

There are plenty of resources available for free that will offer similar or better content.

I don't remember the proper title but "Figure drawing for animators" really opened my eyes to make the best out of the my studies and how to stylize figures.
And the experience I have had since I've read that book I can tell you that the secret is to draw your character a fucking lot but never repeating positions.

if you wish to make stylized artwork your studies should be stylized
drawing from life doesn't mean you have to strive for photorealism and accuracy

ah, really? stylize my studies? I've been doing it wrong this whole time...
I just imagined studying from life to the very dot would help me append the fundies to my style, but my style doesn't feel like its there. It feels like I'm just life drawing, and its not helping me at all.

You're supposed to use them as references, not be a slave to them.
Then again the methods /ic/ preaches are typically used for shit like fine arts and concept art, but if you want to do heavily stylized shit and animation you need a different approach to things. Once you gotten the fundamentals down, of course.
Seriously, compare the works of expert animators versus expert concept artists and you can see that both are different even though its clear they're both good.

No, it was not this book, the title explicitly had "animators" in the title

John K's blog literally has the answers and more. Even ovopack used to give that blog a shout out when he had trouble creating characters.
