I don't get the disdain for art school. I have lots of live model classes, mixed with learning fundamentals, as well as development of your own style. Are art schools shit in the US or are people making them seem a lot worse than they are?

I am studying only Studio Arts with a major in Painting and Drawing to become a fine artist. I don't think my program is crap at all because I learn what I said on my previous post. I also only pay $3000 a year for tuition as opposed to the states where you pay like 25k?

The main problem with art schools is that even in the best case scenario where they actually teach you shit, you're still paying them $3000 a year, money you will eventually have to pay with interest. If you truly enjoy being there, meaning that you even like hanging out with the other students and teachers, then maybe it's worth it to you, just don't take thousands of dollars a year lightly.

I've come to learn that being on /ic/, I don't ever get insulted by what people say because it's very predictable, and often redundant.

I like the dedicated studio spaces, and they aren't ever very cramped except when people are rushing for deadlines. I get along with a lot of my peers and is the few places where I actually meet people I like talking to regularly. The teachers always depend on the class you take, I've heard some of the sculpture teachers aren't great and are hyper critical of student work, which is okay, with some context, but they often provide none. All my professors are excellent, very knowledgeable and push me and my peers to work hard and develop a discipline.

Idk. I dropped out after a year of art classes - too many reasons to list without wallotext. I realized I can make the same amount of progress if I do my own studies. Everyone in my classes all graduated this year and all of their art is still shit-tier. I see all of them trying to sell their abstract paintings on Facebook because they can't find jobs, except for one guy who became a tattoo artist.

Abstract really isn't in now, and if people want to be abstract artists, they really have to push it, you can't just use oils and a canvas anymore.They have to use materials like car paint, and cardboard, or wood. Doing some spiral with their paint brushes really doesn't cut it.
