Does anyone know what brush is used for these drawings? (I know the lines look slightly different but it seems like just the brush tip and the density is different between them ...)
These are by two different artists so I believe it's likely a default tool that comes with either SAI or Clip Studio. I'm pretty sure I've checked all the default brushes in Clip Studio and can't find anything that looks just like it, even by tweaking the settings.
>>
Looks like standard round brush to me.
>>
it's not the brush, they're just really good at line economy

It's not. Drawings done with the most basic brush make pretty plain and honestly bad-looking lines, like this.
>>
>>2856530
Look man, you can't lie to me. I only use the default brushes and 99% of the time it's the round brush.
>>
>>2856530
>Drawings done with the most basic brush make pretty plain and honestly bad-looking lines
bullshit
So are you saying that, if you got a hold of this magical brush, that you, too, can have confident strokes like that artist while knowing why you're making said decisions?
>>
>>2856524
>>2856526

lol fuck off casuals
you can't get those exact marks with a standard hard round, are you guys like legally blind or just gay and retarded?

>>2856522
It looks like the turnip pen in clip studio with brush size set to be affected by velocity. You can tell by the tapering lines in the guys hair, they are typical for when you start involving velocity as a parameter.
>>
>>2856534
It says here you fucking suck.

They are good at line economy. But it's not just that. Here I'm showing what I mean. I made those lines with all different default brushes in Clp Studio. They don't work the same way.
>>
>>2856534
Yeah that's what I figured, the only thing is that I have no idea how to actually change that in the brush settings of the turnip pen. Or any pen for that matter. It seems like anything I try doesn't give it the stroke I'm looking for, but thanks.

Click on the gear for brush settings, click on brush size and then click on that icon with tree outlined dots to get to the options

Look here bub. I do have confident lines. I drew this today. Does it look like my lines are shaky? But the brushstrokes don't look like the ones in those pictures.

It's an option only clip studip paint brushes have. basically the thickness of your lines depends by how fast your strokes are. it's called velocity.
that's the reason csp beats all other software when it comes to lineart.

see pic I made.
>>
Looks like hard round + shape dynamics and no opacity. Maybe with shape dynamics set to pen tilt instead of pressure.
>>
>>2856921
no it's not. photoshop can't recreate this kind of brush.

when I use it my lines just vanish in the middle

there's a slider near velocity. do you have a brain?

Anyone know any decent books on line weight? I'm sure if I were to get better at understanding that proper, I'd be more confident in my strokes.
>>
>>2857047
you mean "gesture"? that's the correct term, retard. also you're wrong.
>>
>>2856530
Who knew you actually need ~*technique*~ to make brushes work well and look good.

What a shock!

>also you're wrong
No you
>>
>>2857052
yes it did. it proved that you can't achieve a certain line without the proper brush settings.

cmon, do 1 nice fast stroke where the beginning and ending are thick and the middle is thin without clip studio's (or any other software's) velocity setting turned on. put the money where your mouth is.

inb4 no response or a shitpost answer.
in any case I win and you are an imbecile.
>>
>>2857058
another idiot that has no idea what they are talking about
>>2856902
literally the same strokes with different settings.
>>
>>2857104

... But then they aren't the same strokes, anon. Changing the settings can change the tool dramatically. You're just being contrary here so you can jump on the "durrrr brushes dun matter" bandwagon.

Imagine someone started a thread with a image of a charcoal drawing and asked "hey, I don't know much about traditional mediums, what material is this I think it looks cool?" and then instead of telling him "anon that's charcoal" everyone went pissing and moaning about how the tool doesn't matter and that a skilled artist could make attractive drawings with cheap ball point pens. Which wasn't the fucking point to begin with.
>>
>>2857211
are you retarded? I am saying the tool settings do matter. of course they won't make you a better artist, but they can help you achieve results different tools can't.
learn to read.
>>
stupid thread
>>
>>2857102
Good job glossing over the entire point of his post and acting like a child with a god complex.
The better stabilized line doesn't equate to technical skill, idiot. It just means your lines are prettier.

>>2857104
And you're in no position to call anyone in this thread an idiot. Go back to the beginner thread.
>>
>>2856522
Heya, it is not the brush, it is the pressure sensitivity setting.
Make sure the practice your line quality by doing warmup exercises before you draw.
>>
>>2857399
my lines are quite off; but you can definitely get there with a standard brush if you practice more than the 5 minutes I was willing to give it.
My settings are:
Round tip
Brush Projection on
Pen Pressure on

Study how the artist uses thick and thin. Do a stroke count and try to make your drawing in the same count of strokes as your reference but using different strokes.

His brushwork reminds me of 80s franco-belgian comics. They used sable hair brushes and ink, so you might want to try analogue first and then attempt to mimic it digitally once you know the feel of it.
>>
Hey OP here, I got the answer to my question really early in this thread (it's to turn velocity variable on in brush settings in Clip Studio, which I use) so if people could stop fighting or trying to give me different solutions and let this thread die that'd be great thanks.
>>
>>2856962

There's one of you fuckwits in every thread where someone asks advice on certain tools.

This may come as a surprise to you, probably because you're a retard with his head up his ass desperately trying to feel superior, but not everyone who asks for advice on how to best utilize a medium thinks it'll magically substitute for skill.

We know. Some fat jew did a figure drawing with a chocolate bar. Everyone fucking knows.

What works for you may not work for others. A lot of people use other software and it is fully possibly to do this style in other ways.
