William Gibson's "The Difference Engine" uses the word Kino and Kinotrope to refer to a type of film invented for the novel. It's sort like steampunk cinema. Alternatively, I believe Kinotrope or Kino are use the way we use movie or film.

Basically, it's used to describe art films, or just whatever tat people want to apply it to.
