I want to get better in drawing just by constant looking at art. Is it possible?
>>
>>2838352
Can you get better at math by just watching numbers and equations?
>>
Start drawing what you see. Recreate it to the best of your abilities. This will actually help you improve, sitting around staring at things really isn't going to do much of anything.
>>
>>2838355
not exactly the best comparison...
>>
>>2838352
Yes, but you also have to be drawing at the same time you're constantly looking at that art. It's called life drawing.
>>
>>2838352
We'd all be masters if it were as simple as only doing that.
>>
>>2838352
That is what I've been doing, but I've been looking exclusively at porn art so I can become better at sex at the same time.

If you have an ipad you can easily put in 14 hours a day by using it while commuting or sitting on the toilet, etc.
You need to make every part of your life into training, just like Bruce Lee.
>>
>>2838352
you have to build muscle memory in your fingers.
>>
>>2838352
You can't become good but you can become better. However, you have to think about the art in a way that you'll learn something. I.e. The shape of something, the way an artist hatched or the way an artist constructed something etc. it's kind of hard to think about the right things tho if you don't draw, so while you might improve a bit, you won't really git gud unless you apply it.
>>2838355
Same with this. If you stare at equations and try to solve them in your head, you'll get better. Not as good as actually soon it on paper but you still oughta improve. But again, you can't really solve stuff that's above your level until you work your way up so if you're only doing it in your head, you'll run in to a wall and stall.
>>
>>2838352
A problem with doing this is your criticism is raised several levels higher than your actual drawing skills. Then you don't draw because you're such a fucking disappointment to yourself.

>i don't want to put in the hard work to get good at something

not sure if this is a bait thread or what my guy

I had to stop and look at that kid to make sure OP isn't stealing pictures of me as a kid. I'm still not sure.
>>
>>2838551
You're pretty white anon
>>
>>2838352
i'd say yeah. it's better to actually draw and engage with what you're seeing but looking at a lot of art is better than not doing it at all
>>
>>2838360
it is
both questions sound fucking stupid
>>
You can if you can understand fundamentals of the images and learn from them and various techniques
I drew my whole childhood until the age of 15, after that I didnt pick a pencil to draw even once, right now I'm 22 and my art has improved tons by just reading comics and watching professionals draw, especially traditional masters such as Jim Lee.

But the process and progress is much slower than ACTUALLY drawing, so I don't suggest it, unless you're ready to watch people draw for the next 40 years nonstop, but it still won't make you a professional until you make use of that stuff you watch and learn.

I want to get better in singing just by constantly listening to music. Is it possible?
>>
>>2838352
I got fit just by looking on fit bodies.

Oh wait, not fit, gay.
>>
>>2838355
It's more like getting good at playing the piano by listening to piano music all day

I was wondering a similar thing recently. I was just thinking about relating language learning to art training.
I've started to like the Krashen/Steve Kaufman way of learning languages, by finding "compelling content" and consuming it as best you can, not worrying too much about grasping everything, or grammar rules, or the "fundamentals", if you will. Just getting used to the language through shit you enjoy, to the point that you are seeking out meaning and comprehension because you enjoy it, and letting the fundamentals come to you through this. Oh, and a big focus on reading, which is pretty difficult work (but it's fun if you're interested in the content, which is the point). Reading is intensive, but it's still about consuming the language and not, say, trying to talk to someone or writing something in the language yourself, it's not producing the language.
The general idea is input > output; comprehension is more important than your skill in producing the language, because comprehension lays a better foundation for production than production does for comprehension. In other words, the skill of listening is more important than the skill of speaking. It's better for a conversation if you can comprehend more of what the other person is saying while being limited in expressing yourself, than if you can say a lot more to the other person but have trouble understanding what they say back.

I believe this approach works in language, but I feel that art is more skill-focused, more production-focused. So I'm not sure how effectively this idea could be applied to art. I don't think eschewing production altogether is a great idea though. I want to clarify something in terms of that language learning method: Comprehension has a higher priority, but it doesn't mean you never try to produce the language yourself. The idea is just that you produce when you need to or want to, but never as a forced exercise. For myself, when I'm studying my language, I'm speaking to myself all the time, because it's just fun for me to mimic what I hear. But how could this approach be applied to art? I'm not sure quite sure. It's hard to make perfect parallels between learning a language and becoming better at making art...

You can develop a better visual library, this is a core essential, but it is not a replacement for constant practice, another core essential. Quit being lazy, boi.

No. HELL no.
>>
>>2838352
You may get a bit better at understanding it, but the actual techniques require physical practice and effort.
