Why is everyone on here obsessed with figure drawing? I've noticed that a lot of artists know how to draw humans only and not much else. What's the point of spending so much time learning obscure muscle groups etc to draw super realistic figures from imagination (when references exist), instead of spending that time learning other things that might make you a more creative, capable artist? Of course, I'm not saying figure drawing is useless, but people seem too much time into it. I personally don't want to be that guy who's only good at drawing figures in lewd poses on a white background in photoshop off his imagination.

People are the most important subject to us, because we are very social beings and want to see / listen to / engage with other people constantly.
Also, people are the most difficult subject, not inherently but because we know people very well and thus see any tiny errors (such we wouldn´t spot in animal pictures, for example.

This. Because other human beings are the most familiar things in our lives, figure drawing is basically an exercise in honing your observational skills.

Figure Drawing essentially teaches you to see forms at a basic and primitive level. Of course this can be practice through any other subject matter, but the human figure is complex and offers a challenge. I can say the same for an animal but people are just more common and are in a lot of art in general

If you want to extract some shekels from the normies, you're gonna have to draw filthy humans. Unfortunately, humans are hard to draw well because we are all so used to seeing them, and can immediately feel when something is off. So it takes a lot of study and practice to do a decent job of it.
