How can you make it if jews pay less and less each year? There are more artists nowadays too, a starving artist is a sad reality.

These companies make a fuck ton of money out of the entertainment they are producing and they need artists to keep producing said entertainment. It's a job like any other you dumb shit. Ofcourse artists needs to be paid, and handsomely so. It's a very specialized skill that takes years of hard training to develop

I just hope artists will get their egos out of their asses some day to form unions so they can influence the market, otherwise it'll go down the shitter further and further.

Remember this article well whenever you willingly share books, paywalled tutorials, software and other resources with anons from shitty, backwards ass countries because you'd rather have (You)s and stick it to one of your peers that actually "made it" than a potential future as an artist yourself, lol

Unions? You mean like the one you are required to join if you want to work on a shitty Hollywood movie? Pays well I guess. But I don't like the idea of having to pay fees. Don't you also have to do a minimum amount of regular work for the industry to stay in the union? Are artists in the union kept from doing work outside of the union? Seems to just keep shitty artists employed. I mean look at the designs in recent movies. Maybe they are just bypassing the union and hiring cheap labor in India and shit.

It's a supply and demand issue. There's a limitless supply of decent enough artists trying to break into the industry and a finite number of Magic cards to illustrate in any given deck. If good artists were scarce there would be no problem with regards to compensation, but now if you try to negotiate a better deal for yourself there's always a surplus of people as good or better than you who won't. I guess you can always still start a school/mentorship program/"art camp" on the side and teach even more aspiring illustrators art skillz.

Excellent way to get 100% of domestic art jobs outsourced to non-unionized Chinese and Koreans.

>>2832070
Agreed freelance opportunities have been ruined by thirsty fanboys riding the industry's dick. Sadly I've met people in real life whose highest ambition is to work on Halo (whatever number we're on now) and say things like "Do you think they'll hire me if I say I can work for 5 dollars an hour?". How sad is that?

What? Are you american, by any chance?
I'm talking about proper unions like they exist in europe.
>>
>>2832815
Not that guy, but there are numerous unions in Hollywood some which include pre/post production design. And tons of this type of work work is outsourced to places outside of Hollywood, to studios like Atomhawk in the UK or Weta in NZ (some studios which are incentivized through govt subsidies to keep the working coming in from the US).

However I disagree with that anons position that unions exist to keep crappy artists employed. While that is a side effect they mostly exist to keep union leadership employed.
>>
>>2832197
If everyone was thinking the same, it would be impossible to maintain a healthy community. I know what you mean, people getting ahead of others may be a problem, i dont know how to solve this issue to be honest.
>>
>>2832308

This.

Supply is damn high and demand is damn low.

You do the math.

I don't think there's any objective way to take statistical evidence on this subject, but just get on artstation to see just how many people there are on a a higher level. Then go to any industry work shop event like Massive Black, IFCC or THU and meet tons of artists you've never even heard of who are also way better than you. Consider how many people each year graduate from places like Art Center, CGMA, FZD, and how many are self taught using gnomon and gumroad tutorials. Check facebook groups like Brainstorm and Level Up to see how many aspiring artists there are. Then finally ask yourself why wages for illustrators and concept artists continue to stagnate in the entertainment industry (this is based on anecdotal evidence but I have talked to a lot of artists who got their start in the 90s when the industry was expanding pretty explosively, a lot of them say that the skill level they had then was a lot lower than what the average is now, and their compensation was much, much higher). Also, as I said previously, try to negotiate yourself a better deal. If your skillset was valuable (in terms of difficulty to replace, not how long it took you to develop) then you would have no problem negotiating a better position for yourself.

I'm not trying to be overly pessimistic here, but it's good to manage your expectations to what the industry looks like right now, obviously there are still people who manage to make a lot of money.
>>
>>2833850
How can I make a lot of money then? What is the solution to success?
>>
>>2832164

yeah, that's a big part of why making money at art is so hard. too many people trying to give their art away for free.
>>
>>2833850

There are only a handful of artists on arsestation that are REALLY good. But there are a lot of mediocre ones, and for sure they might be good enough for many jobs.

I don't buy the whole thing about there being a endless supply of GREAT artists though.
>>
>>2833906
Of course there aren't many great artists, but studios are more concerned with hiring good enough artists. And artists who were good enough were in short supply 20 years ago, but are abundant now.
>>
fuck, i have been working so hard to get into this industry and i see this shit, why do people even learn to draw at this point
>>
The starving artist analogy does not refer to people who have a career in art you stupid fuck.
It refers to artists who try to make masterpieces but live in poverty because they have to devote so much time towards art that they have barely any left for making money.
>>
>>2832308

There is a much bigger supply of decent enough graphic designers, yet they get paid way more than illustrators do typically. How does this work?

>why do people even learn to draw at this point
My guess is a combination of everyone in your environment telling you 'OMG you're so talented' and being told that anyone can do anything and all you need to do is follow your dream and believe in yourself.
>>
>>2833962
The demand is greater. Every business needs a logo, web page, business cards, packaging, graphic profile etc. yet only a small minority need highly rendered digital paintings of goblins and wizards.
>>
>>2832039
There's more art jobs out there besides painting children's games, you know.
>>
>>2832039
>How can you make it if jews pay less and less each year?
By working for more than a single client and being so good that your art is irrefutably a sale point in any product you partifipate of.

Most WotC artists don't get paid the good dollars because when the art director needs a 10/10 piece he has John Avon, Terese Nielsen, Wayne Reynolds, Kev Walker and Rebecca Guay to pick from before even considering Noob McNobody.
>>
>>2834094
everyone works for multiple people but they still fail to get the money. Not because they do it for free but because living off that is impossible today.
>>
>>2832039
>How can you make it if jews pay less and less each year?
wrong board faggot. Dont be a talentless hack and whine about meme people for a start.
>>
>>2833880
do something that people ACTUALLY want to pay money for.

you can be an artist, but nobody wants to buy generic concept art or fantasy.sci-fi scenes anymore. market is too oversaturated.

create appealing images that people can enjoy ( both normies AND artists)

it's easy to make money, it's just all these skiiled artists are makingimages with boring/samey/generic subject matter.

normies don't care about perspective and shit, they just like the result. sci and fantasy shit just looks like mmorpg spammy advertisements.
>>
>>2835044
But even in creative illustration people can struggle a lot
>>
>>2835050
there's a lot of ways to make money if you're good.
it's just people are starting to realize that they need to expand their skillset or they'll get left behind.

The sad part is that a lot of these guys who are getting really good, are gonna be left behind because they think raw technical skill will help them coast in a creative field.
It won't. Being good is the first step, but you have to not only be imaginative, you have to know how to adapt too. 9/10 the people who are struggling refuse to even learn 3D
because they have the absolutely delusional goal of being some sort of 2D purist who only draws or only paints what they want, while being exceptionally rich without providing a service
>for just 3000$ I'll draw whatever I want, because i'm good. I don't care about your ideas.

The entertainment industry is about to take a drop because of creative bankruptcy. the same stuff is coming out and it's getting more and more expensive, but everyone (normies) are starting to hate everything
because they're tired of seeing the same stuff all the time. it's a billion dollar industry of samey bullshit, and the people making the stuff are literally the equivalent of the technically skilled sci-fi concept designer from artstation.

The idea of being a Freelance Specialist, no major work history, who makes a lot of money has always been a delusional pursuit,
The industry is in decline, but financially it's the highest it's ever been. A declining company that makes cards, in a world where people don't buy cards is nothing to worry about.

Just build your skillset, and you won't have to worry about work.

>Thats why I am constantly thinking about my own fantasy universe so I can earn my money and not be tied to a fucking jew
