Can you guys recommend some comics or manga that you really like? Also tell me why you like it, if you please.
Akira, no need to explain
Habibi, it's a Graphic Novel but just the overall look and design of the pages is really nice
Abara, from the author or Blame (which I also recommend). Gritty style and very cool creature and environment design
The Silent Hill comics
Sky Doll
Shaun Tan'S The Arrival, another Graphic Novel but completely without words and each panel is a piece of art in itself imo
From an artist point of view, anything by Daisuke Igarashi.

also speaking purely artistically, but the latest few chapters of d.gray-man have phenomenal art. hoshino really knows her fundamentals; anatomy, linework, perspective in figures, all of it.

Sun-ken rock - artist boichi the dude is japanese but draws it in korea so is it a manwha or a manga im not sure.
I fucking love the detail in his work, the artist is dedicated to research and working extra to make it better,
every now and then he posts stuff some ''behind the scenes'' stuff like where he went and what hid did to research parts of the manga.
He has downsides too, it has unnecessarily many panty shots and he can draw only a single female character, they all look the same with minor differences.
The story is revolves around a japanese dude who chased after a girl he likes to korea, somehow he ended up as a mob boss while the girl became a police officer.
The Blue Estate.
Hillarious and well-written as well as hell of a comic visually.
any good sites you guys recommend to read comics online?

Otoyomegatari. It's definitely one of the most beautiful manga out there, the author releases the chapters at a snails pace because of all the work that goes into every page. The story's breddy comfy too, takes place mostly in Central Asian villages about a century ago, the Persian Arc is my favorite though
Dorohedoro is a masterpiece, both in art and writing.

Are you talking about this or a manga?
>>2812037
Claymore.
Just because.
>>2812037
I used to be amazed by Oyasumi Punpuns backgrounds.
Only later I found out that all of them are edited photographs.
Still worth checking out though.
>>2812244
Yeah i found out few weeks ago, even if he does edit the pictures after that it still not the same.
But there are some mangas that have insane backgrounds done by hand.
Heat manga (the one by the fist of the north star illustrator) because it's a great crime story.
Triage-X because it's like an 80's action film except in manga and because kewt grills hnnnnnnggghhh.
>>2812244
>edited photographs.
reeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Thanks for letting me know
>>2812244

>>2812282
So what if he uses photographs? I can understand thinking less of his drawing skills, but if you like the art what does it matter how it's made?
If you haven't already seen his Manben episode:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4sk4ji_urasawa-naoki-no-manben-manga-documentary-s1e3-2015-asano-inio-english-subs-720_creation
>>2812297
In my opinion it doesn't matter that much, its simple to do and looks good, but you do lose some respect for the artists for cutting corners.
Same reason why traditional paintings are more valued than digital paintings.
You could even say why draw at all, let's make computers that does that for us, it differs from person to person on where the line goes, some would say tracing photographs is ok, some say those people aren't artists.
Yeah saw that one, it's still enjoyable manga even with the knowledge of the backgrounds being photographs.
>>2812037
I've seen other work from this artist, who is it?
akira since it's in print and one of the finest works of draftsmanship in the medium
>>2812191
if you like the style, read blade of the immortal
if you like the porn, look up guro
>>2812037
I can't enjoy webcomics senpaI.
Because no matter how great the art is. The story still comes off as shit.
Artwise, Shinichi Sakamoto has gorgeous work. Kokou no Hito (not pictured) was a great read. This is from Innocent. Didn't keep me interested but the art was nice.
Vagabond gives me a boner in my heart, I got no idea whats currently going on with the release schedule though, I'd recommend giving it a go anyway just for the artwork.
>>2812408
This isn't a webcomic thread?
Shokugeki no Souma has clean line work, amazingly expressive renderings of the character's poses and a really nice variation of body types among its characters. 10/10 would recommend for reference
>>2812433
Oh fuck I'm an autistic retard.
I'm gonna fuck off now.
Shimanami Tasogare - Interesting panel layouts and quality art.
Kuutei Dragons has a great setting, a different take on what a dragon should be like.
Everything by Kui Ryoko, fantastic short stories with an art style that strikes a good balance.
Dowman Sayman is a God.
>>2812113
For all my mango needs I tend to use bato.to
>>2812037
berserk. especially the later chapters (though there is a shift in artstyle towards the very end presumably due to a transition to digital format)
pic related, one of the early chapters.

Oyasumi Punpun
Moon Knight
Berserk
Vinland Saga
>>2812037

Woah, Jodorowsky's awesome, thanks for bringing this up I didn't know about it. It sounds kinda like another iteration of his failed Dune project, so I expect to see some Moebius + Giger influences in it.
>>2812914
Also the technopriests. Very, very much a bunch of ideas he wanted to use in dune/lifted from dune
>>2812914
You never seen any of his movies, right?
>>2812604
feels like this should be more popular
>>2813120
I've skimmed through El Topo and Holy Mountain for the visuals. From what I've read about them, they're movies that require a bit of patience - lots of obfuscating symbolism, etc. Either way, they're on my watch list. As it is I like him for the scale of his ideas, and because he brings together a lot of the things/artists that I like.
Little Nemo in Slumberland
Krazy Kat
Peter Pan (Loisel)
Pinocchio (Winshluss)
>>2813238
I almost forgot
Corto Maltese
Obscure Cities
Lone Sloane
The story is a masterpiece, the timing, the characters, everything is really good.
One could say that the art is a little dated but it evolve through the manga.
>>2812307
>but you do lose some respect for the artists for cutting corners
this is why a lot of people will never make it
"respect" and "honor" are meaningless when you are shit, and cant meet deadlines
there is no need to torture yourself. if cutting corners allows you to get the job done, then do it
Air Gear, Tenjou Tenge. Both are made by Oh!Great. He is shit at telling a story or atleast going past the opening. These are pure style over substance.
Berserk for obvious reasons
Yotsuba for the simple things in life
Fullmetal Alchemist, first complete manga with a good ending.
Comics:
Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. Great story, Multiple things happening in panels, subtle jokes , the greatest adventures known to man.
Superman Kingdom Come, art and story combined.
Joker's Asylum, great shorts about different bad guys. Killer Croc's part I highly recommend.
>>2813633
Oh, please. Cutting corners is what amateur artists do. They'll never make it.
>>2812241

woah! I didn't know about this movie it looks so good!
>>2812660
i loved alita
shame kishihiro became a lazy artist and writer with the newer series
Keisuke Itagaki's Grappler Baki.
A lot of people on /ic/ like to bag on him for his over dramatized take on human anatomy, but he doesnt draw like that because he doesnt know any better. Something he always strives for is pure intensity and his ability to convey movement and energy is insane. Hes also really good at texturing and fabrics
