Something's broken, what do I do?

>The original developer of the site has taken a leave for quite a while, originally due to medical reasons. Progress on the site is almost non-existant at this point. You can try contacting him at @LavaFlake or emailing him at [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>Your streak will go back to 0 and you will have to start again. No other penalties.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>There is no week system anymore, instead new users are given "streaks" based on the number of consecutive days you can submit without getting eliminated. (token losses do not reset your streak)

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

Barkode doesn't paint he just knows how to render. Mintkat has awful linework you actually have no idea what you're talking about. Choob's colors are stale as fuck mostly due to his reliance on photoref, and when they aren't it's because it's from a film that's color graded well.

How can one determine who is a hobbyist? The quality of work? I generally just chalk that up to the level of the person, maybe they are just /beg/

I also imagine that a lot of the submissions that do look like they are bare minimum 30 mins, are probably in some cases an hour or two, of erasing, looking at the work, erasing again, going over the same line you just put down 5 times then erasing it all again, it eats up a lot of the time for some people.

But of course there are works that are probably just 30 minutes of scribbles, its just the lesser skilled seem to get more flak for it, as it looks considerably more low effort.

Hell I bet some of the better lassies sometimes managed to sneak out a 20 minute drawing and avoid scrutiny.

Some people wanna git gud faster, some people wanna git gud slower, I think it shows.

Depends. There are tons of hobbyists on CA/Da/tumbrl/etc who are close to reaching professional levels of good.

They just move at a much slower pace than say some one who wants to 'make it'. They draw 2-4 hours a day where as for a 'i'm gonna make it' artist draws for literally autistic levels of time.

But hobbyists are not a problem as long as they move forward and make progress. Just my take on it.

What kind of studio do you think it would be? I remember people talking about an animation studio but idk how many people other than me are still interested. My main two interests are animation type stuff or concept art, so maybe we could do a massive black type thing, only with people who are all shit and no one wants to hire.

Tbh I did think that we'd be a lot closer and a lot more of a community by now. Unfortunately all that really happens is that people post on the site and do nothing else. I don't really know anything about any of the artists on here and haven't really had any conversations with them aside from back when people used to stream regularly. There's the discord but a good chunk of people don't even post to las. Maybe it's improved since I haven been on in a long time, when I used to go there was really only 1 clique that talked regularly and no one else really talked. Then as time went on they all dropped out of las and only used the discord. It's pretty much impossible to make any form of collaborative project with other lassies cause it's impossible to actually get to know them.

Concept art isn't a difficult thing to understand, what do you mean? It's about presenting your client with a bunch of different concepts and designs on their desired subject matter, then you iterate upon it until the client is satisfied. There probably aren't enough animators to do a short, but maybe a simple game or VN? Or say screw animators/3d artists and do a graphic novel anthology.

runnerman1, I really like the beautiful colours in this, and I feel a bit of that comfy Bob Ross vibe, the perspective seems a little weird at the back of the lake is my only issue. Keep it up.

CRT, #81 has some good foreshortening in the arm and hand, Just be careful of the volume of the torso in stuff like #83 where his shoulders are larger than his pecs. Good work though.
