guys i'm so fucking sick of exercises and rotting in front of youtube videos, stressi g myself out to git gud. i just wanna have fun. That's the reason i started drawing. But if i dont get good i can never live off it. What do? i just want to have fun with art again
>>
>>2796777
Not gonna make it.
>>
Look bro, cut the time you use on exercises a lil bit and use the extra time to fuck around/ do something you like. Or better yet, grab a bunch of finished studies and get creative with them. Like, dunno, add wings on someone's head or combine an animal study with a plant study to create a weird-ass hybrid thing. Who said you can't play around while you practice stuff?
>>
then draw for fucking fun

i swear to god the mentality that people have on this board is self-destructive

you generally shouldn't aim to make art your sole income - get a job and do this as a hobby to retain the pleasure you get from it
>>
>>2796789
You've got a point. Maybe i just have to make it fun for myself?
>>2796790
maybe. I mean thats what im doing as of rn. maybe i dont need to make money off it or get famous.

>>2796778
What's making it? Seriously what the fuck is "making it"? Is it making enough money off your art to live off've? Then u can just go make shitty animu porn. Maybe making it is a personal thing.

If you don't like the process of learning or the sense of discovery, it's always going to be difficult. Not unheard of for someone to draw well and not enjoy their studies, but the chips are stacked against you.

You can't spell Fundamentals with out fun, Anon. Though it out, the fun will come.
>>
What would you guys have to do to consider yourself to have "made it"?
>>
>>2796803
I'd consider I 'made it' if I was able to sustain myself through my art. Or at least have a job that allows me to do art on the side, thus having two shitty sources of income instead of one. But that's just me, it depends on what YOU want. If you wanna live off art, git gud. If you don't, then don't.
>>
>>2796800
I mean, yeah, man. Sometimes you just gotta spin things around until you like what you're doing, while still keeping in mind what you're trying to learn. There's no one teaching you here but yourself so find the methods that work best for you.
>>
>>2796777
ywn make it if u dont post a dickpic right now
>>
>>2797255
When did all of the /b/ boarders arrive? Is it just for today?
>>
>>2797259
I've been here for 1.5 years, seeing the same fucking thread everyday gets old matey.
>>
You're supposed to do both. You'll never learn to apply your studies to what you want to make if you never do random shit you love.
>>
>>2797255
g-gosh do you really mean it, Anon? you wouldn't lie to me to get me to post my donger online, right?

>>2796817
you don't have to git gud to live off art though :( and ik many people who are great but hardly get any attention. it's the stylization that takes up the market. if you want to sell, you're going to have to conform.
>>
>>2796777
There is no reason why you can't do both, let's be honest you aren't practicing for 12 hours a day
>>
>>2796777
Don't think of it a torture dude, get some music you like going and lose yourself in the practice
If you have a chill experience with it your mind is going to subconiously crave more and it'll be easier to make practice into a long term habit
>>
>>2796777
nice quality of work
>>
>2796777
Nice trips and even nicer drawing. If you have that kind of creativity then I would say your practice will play off. Once you've mastered anatomy you'll be able to add or creative flair to enhance your artwork.
>>
>>2796777
First, don't stress over making a living off it if you're still in the learning process. It won't help you at all. Rather think smart and get some savings to get you through your studies, like a part time job that allows you to earn some money on the side (ideally a 70/30 ratio from time spent drawing to working hours)

As for practicing, take some time of your day for deliberate practice, but concentrate on a personal project. Do something that is directly benefiting your product. Don't choose something too broad, learn something specific. Ideally something that is of personal interest and not a chore, but I know that these don't always go together. On the bright side - the more competent you get at a specific thing, the more fun you will have practicing it. At some point finishing works will actually help you more than just doing exercises and studies.

Side note: I doubt "rotting in front of YouTube videos" will help you to improve. From my own experience a good tutorial gives you dozens of hours to spend on practice on that subject. I know it's tempting to gather more and more knowledge, but putting what you learned to use and mastering it is so much more important.

>aren't practicing for 12 hours a day
I don't see how this matters, as I assume he puts the most hours possible in. We all have a certain capacity on how much time and energy we can spent on something.OP worries about not earning money with his art in the future. Do you expect someone with these believes would waste time/energy on something that doesn't benefit his art progress?
OP is ambitious like most d/ic/ks. And like most people on this board he also stresses over it way too much. Seriously, you guys should re-think how you spent your practice time and how you keep having fun with it.
>>
Had this problem too... Heres the key: quit stessing.. And just draw!! Draw what you enjoy.
>>
>>2796777
In the beginning, I like the rule of thirds.

1. First third, practice fundemental skill building studies, then throw them away. Contours, gestures, color mix studies.

2. Second third, copy master works to the best of your ability. Focus on proportion, placement and meaning. How did they compose it? Are you fully developing your works to this extent?

3. Last third. Compose your own works. Think of your favorite artists and add your own purpose and flair.
>>
>>2798300
I suggest an alteration:

1. Warm up. Line quality, ellipses, spheres, still life drawing, stacking boxes on top of another.

2. Studies. Read a book, watch a lecture, apply that shit. Take a master drawing and analyze it from every point of view you can think of. Take a human body part or an animal and look up their anatomy, in depth.

3. Personal work. Draw a space marine or an anime girl, design a completely new character or redesign an existing one.
Bonus points if you apply some of the knowledge you learnt in the previous stage.
Extra bonus points if you make a 'finished drawing'.

Study ??

Just draw things that are difficult that you like and study what I you have a hard time on . Believe or not you will naturally get used to the work Ioad . the most important tip is just draw .
