In a certain sense he's right, but what can be noticed by modern and contemporary works, is that they build off of one another, each trying to one up each other. It isn't so much that if you too create blank canvases/"boring" geometric shapes, you'll be famous, it's more the fact of adding your own spin to it and presenting it in a new way to the art world.

What's so triggering to you about this video? He explains a very real thing. One that the industry is oversaturated with people who just create soulless, technical wankery without ever trying to devlop their artistic voice and what they actually want to say with their art.
