Does this look familiar to anyone here?

I'm studying game art and there are a few people in my class that are notorious art thieves/tracers. The person that made this was already caught tracing before and I want to call her out on her bullshit.
>>
>>2777676
Don't study game art
>>
>>2777676
>caught tracing before
how?
>>
It looks warcraftish
>>
>>2777676
pretty sure it is. the hands look too good for someone that makes face like that. but they probably either traced a base, or something with a different character so it'll be difficult finding the original.

Well this was her work like a month ago. Pretty shady
>>
>>2777691
So they improved, and you are buttmad so you resort to false indictments and inciting a witchhunt.
>>
Why would you even care, OP?

Work on your art.
>>
>>2777691
What the fuck is this a high school class? Embarrassing.

>shady
I mean, did you guys find the original? It could just be referenced.

You said "caught tracing" not "looked kinda suspicious"

So what. It will ultimately hurt her, not you. Mind your own business, faggot.

How else are you supposed to make it?

Not gonna make it.

I don't know of a single professional who wouldn't share their experiences and aim to help people in one way or another.
>>
>>2777704
Holy fuck which college? If we fucking tried this our tutors would fucking flog us.
>>
>>2777741
>>2777728
>>2777727
It's in Europe so the barrier is quite low. Half of my class either traces or draws shitty anime. The teachers don't care and joke about how these students won't get jobs. Luckily they focus all their energy on the students that do take it seriously. But still these people get really annoying
>>
>>2777747
You must be stupid if you aren't ignoring them too. Not gonna make it if you are going to be held back by things like this.
>>
>>2777747
Britbong here, our Games Art students get destroyed for tracing and run a high risk of being kicked for plagiarism if they do so I dunno what sort of pleb college you must be at for these kids to get away with it.
>>
>>2777747
Please tell me you don't pay for this
>>
Am I the chosen one?
>>
>>2777753
So I guess the entry barrier and the general level of those students is somewhat high, am I right, lad?
>>
>>2777763
Unfortunately I do.

>>2777753
It's a dutch school if that matters.
>>
>>2777767
Only prestigious schools have high barriers to entry. It wouldn't be fair otherwise.
>>
>>2777769
Well, if you really give a fuck, portfolio is everything that matters, so fuck them.
>>
>>2777767
I wish the entry barrier was higher, the Games Art kids at our uni don't need to display any proficiency in 2D/3D art in order to join. On the upside though they do tend to improve fast because of how hard the tutors will shit on them for mistakes which is nice I guess.

I wish they would put in some portfolio requirement for entry though, the level at which they're working is pitifully low for university students.
>>
>>2777769
I thought the Dutch were supposed to be good with art though. I guess it's just down to how likely the tutors are to tolerate poor practice from their students.
>>
>>2777790
What was your portfolio?
>>
>>2777795
Didn't need one m8. Our entry requirements are really low for all of the courses which means that they're all flooded with kids with no experience trying to get a degree in subjects which take a lot of practice.
>>
>>2777702

You'd think people on /ic/ have never half assed a drawing in their life. And I bet I'm going to get some people so high up their own ass they're going to say they haven't.

I'm not saying it's 100% not traced, but using "she drew a good hand here and a bad hand here" isn't fucking evidence of tracing. Quality in output can vary pretty radically, especially for beginners and intermediates.
>>
>>2777747
is it perhaps in germany
i really need to know

we have the exact same shit here senpai
welcome to club "wasted tons of money and hopes and dreams on a shitty game art school that is run by incompetent douchebags who dont give a shit as long as you pay well"
>>
>>2777676
Well first I gotta ask: Is tracing disallowed?

If not, then that would explain why some students do it.
>>
>>2777874
tracing is NOT allowed (other anon who goes to a shit game art school)
its plagiarism
the thing is, our teachers just dont give a shit because they are incompetent so it flies under the radar too often

op, would this sort of stuff get praise at your school? i just wanna check how bad your school is compared to mine.
>>
>>2777879
>>2777874
Shit school here, it's not allowed but the teachers honestly don't give a fuck. Companies do tho. I was at internship at one of the bigger studios here, and they caught another intern tracing and inmediately kicked her out.
>>
>>2777838
this is how i know you can't draw hands for shit. when someone who actually knows how to draw hands half-asses them, it still wouldn't come out as unskilled and beginner looking like the one on the left. that was done by someone who's never done a single hand study in their life.
>>
>>2777883
someone actually got kicked out of your school? people here can just not come to school for days on end without even calling it in (and only stupid rule followers actually get the note from the doctors office like me) without getting punished. they can hand in extremely shitty work and stay in because the school is so expensive that they dont want to lose any money.
>>
>>2777884

Post your work
>>
>>2777874
Tracing isn't allowed, you get the banhammer if you're caught doing it. Most cases the tutors don't look enough into it so students can get away with academically even if their peers shit on them for it.

Of course you didn't need a portfolio. If the students could be turned away for having a weak portfolio or no portfolio, the school wouldn't be able to financially destroy as many beginners who have almost no hope of making it after graduation as they'd otherwise be able to.

If their students had portfolios they might even be good enough to discern whether the faculty are competent enough to warrant paying them tremendous sums of money to teach them.
>>
>>2777886
No not at school, at the art studio I was an intern at.
>>
>>2777907
Don't know about you mate, but here in the UK it isn't financially destroying to get a useless degree. A lot of the games art courses I've seen just don't require a portfolio for some reason even though they damn well should, I can't imagine that the Uni's are making a sick killing on a bunch of incompetent £9k per year paying students.
>>
>>2777944
agree
p sure they cost way less in europe than in america. i mean its still a fucking crazy amount of money for normal little people who think they are fulfilling their career dreams, but in america youd probably be fucked even worse..
>>
>>2777954
Didn't realise how scarily huge student fees are in The States until I looked just now, we're comparatively in fucking luxury as students over here and I damn well appreciate it.
>>
>>2777963
Unless it's different in the uk, what makes it expensive in the us is
>private college
>for profit
>unaccredited program
Private schools receive no federal funds so they aren't cheap, you can't use financial aid on unaccredited programs and for profit colleges are the devil.

You can go to a state college and get an accredited useless degree in art history and japanese buttsniffing for about 12k a year before room and board though.

>>
>>2777997
So you're saying it's shitty on purpose for the lulz.
>>
>>2778002
I'm not defending the person the OP posted, just saying artist drawing terrible looking hands even though they have the skill because they doesn't give a fuck does happen.
>>
>>2777978
Never really looked into why our fees are so low desu, we don't have many private unis and they only tend to be expensive for foreign students. I'm not sure how the debt is handled in the US either, but over here our government loans cover almost everything and we don't have to pay them back until we earn a solid amount of cash. We can easily piss away our loan money on some shitty meme degree and not have to worry about paying it back. I mean like, even prestigious unis here are nowhere near the price of their American equivalents.
I'm genuinely curious about why we're so filthy cheap now, the Scots have it even cheaper the lucky shits.

you realize manga artists draw in that overly simplified style on purpose for comic effect?
>>
>>2777997
This isn't a counter it's a perfect example of what he was saying. The skill still shows in that "shitty" hand in the corner. It looks purposefully stylized and simplified. The line quality alone shows a practiced hand. It's not shitty in the same very obvious way that a beginner's hand drawing, even one they were trying to make look like that chibi-esque style, would be.
>>
>>2777997
Detailed stuff aren't always better, especially if your main focus is comedy, imagine reading a comedy comic that are drawn and painted like old master painting. vids below explained it rather well.

>studying game art
please anon don't do this to yourself, at least take a course on games development where you can be taught how to code and animate to and other I.T skills that may be helpful in other I.T industries. Not only are you studying art but that fact that you have chosen to take a course that focuses only of the art of video games, why limit something that already gives you such a poor qualification...
