Is it necessary to master values or should I just go straight to colors for getting 2 birds with 1 stone?
Why not both?

Do both. Color studies are important and unfortunately neglected.
Also some concepts are more visible without and some with color (contrast, highlights, light affecting things etc.)

It depends on how much of a beginner you are
If you can't make basic shapes from various angles, stick to B&W
If you have some measure of spatial ability, B&W value practicing is a spook and you should work in full color
You learn very quickly to recognize values when working in color and you need all the full color practice you can get your hands on
Diff nig here
can anyone hit me with a source on how to shade with a pencil
I cant find myself properly... really even knowing how to go about it

fuck these guys. Master values from direct observation then move on to color.
This is how the masters learned to paint. Ignore my advice if you wish, and watch yourself struggle forever.

Start using charcoal. Pencil is a shitty medium, it's not for beginners. Modern art education has perverted its uses.
It's good for some things, but not for learning your fundies.

?????????? kill yourself ok??

I went straight to colour and it was only once I saw it as tangentional to good value management that my art made any real progress.
Still not starting with a B&W canvas though fuck that shit.
