Something's broken, what do I do?

>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

What do you guys think about this change in the streak system in regards to DED:

Instead of drawing every day, you tell the system how often you want to draw, i.e every day, every 3 days or every week (would be max), and when you submit a personal timer ticks down from when you submit with the duration of how often you said you're going to draw. This means everyone is on a different deadline, since it starts from when you submit and it's on different durations.

Your streak would only tick up every other day if you said you draw every 2 days, but the timer resets to say 48 hours in this example when you submit. So if you say you draw every other day but submit every day, your streak would never increase because you reset your timer too quickly. A fix for this is to lock users out of submitting the days they've said they aren't going to draw. If you say draw every 6 days and start on a monday, you'd only be able to submit on sunday that week, and then on saturday the next week and so on. Draw every week you can only submit on the day you started, etc.

Another option is to leave deadlines always at midnight instead of from when you submit, like the current system, except you can choose to not do it every day, but you set the interval. This means instead of draw every 24 hours like explained above, you draw every 24 hours (given chosen to draw every day) + the hours left in the day when you submit, possibly knackering up 'draw every day' to 48 hour time limit for people submitting at midnight (day start).

Possible abuse of this system: You draw every day, but you go on a week vacation, so you pop your timer up to draw every week to avoid losing streak, and then back it down again to every day when you're back. I think you'd have to be able to change your interval, but I'd have to restrict it somhow, like change every month or something max.

A step in the wrong direction, or is this an improvement?

Wanted to release into the wild my pos one frame cartoon that kept me laughing for 15mins while drawing it (is also really is shit and stinking my place so want it to fuck right off).

Thought this might be the right thread for it as I've been drawing everyday since 1991 with the only small break in my dedicated perseverance being from period Nov 2002 until 3 days ago.

I did notice, at least at the moment on the ic board, you guys are fairly serious textbook scholarly aficionados so if perhaps not right place where should it be ditched? Was inspired by /a/ (yes really) but definitely doesn't belong there and maybe want to make more drivel like this for fun.

There tends to be 30-50 people on at most times. Comfychat is the general channel and so is used most, and yeah you have some people like loli and susi having conversations there for a while, but anyone can and do talk there. There's a seperate channel for shitposting or memes, another for requesting and giving art crit, another for weekly critiques of animated films etc etc.

It's pretty good. And of course less shitposting because of there being names.

Would lassies like if I set up the secret Santa? I get that people are protective of their addresses and such but it can be anonymous, most post services don't need your name on the letter, and the only people who would see it would be myself and the lassie you're randomly matched with.

Doesn't have to be much, we could just say draw or paint something small, like a Christmas card or something that size. If you want to do something larger or like put in a candy from your country to send to a lassie abroad that'd be really sweet but bear in mind that'd cost more to send than a letter.

Or we could do an on site challenge like for lavas get well soon thing, or do both so people who can't or won't share address etc don't get left out.

Alright there seems to be a good amount of people interested.

How about we have a couple of weeks for people to sign up / send their information, and then say on the 20th November or whenever everyone's in it then locks and people will get randomly partnered up. You then have another couple of weeks to make your card or whatever, and then send it out in the first week of December.

I don't think you should have to still be active in LAS in order to take part, but please have your username in the email, and say if you want to send a digital or physical card. It makes sense for the digital people to be partnered up I think.

We can also have a challenge on LAS itself a week or two before Christmas for making a card for LAS in general, whereas the secret santa ones will be more personalized I guess.

Open to ideas on things to change or rules to tweak.
