How exponential is popularity-growth?

In my endless autism I've made a little program that allows you to compare how well you are doing to other artists. You input the date your profiles were created (on say DA, FA, Tumblr, etc), then you input your likes, followers, pageviews, etc, and those of whom you are comparing to. The little script then lets you know how you measure up, relative to the time your account has been existing.

So for instance if you have X views, Y faves, Z watchers and your account was made early 2014, but Sachimikan has 32X views, 12Y faves, 20Z watchers, but her account was made in 2011, it lets you know just how much worse you are doing and that you need to buckle up big time.

However the one thing this does not take into account is the fact that growth is NOT linear. But how nonlinear is it? Obviously success and popularity feed back into itself, but by what factor should I boost each consecutive year? 1.1? 1.3? 1.75?

Would appreciate any help if there are some experienced people around.

Her belly button is too high.

Impossible to measure
You have a whole fucking lot of variables that will affect your popularity function, and they will interact with one another in unpredictable ways on top of that

How do you define popularity anyway? Number of page views? Number of commissions? Number of autistically overpaid commissions?

A page of a scat porn artist won't have many views, but that doesn't mean he's not making a fucking killing with commissions. Not to mention nobody is gonna "like" his artworks in social networks, etc.

Good points but there has to be an approximation to a measurable value. Hm I think I might just analyze a batch of say 20 top popular artists, and somehow map the yearly exponential bonus from their average.
>>
>>2725490
Part of the problem is you are mapping things out based on date that the accounts were made. Someone like Maciej is super popular now, and has only been popular for a few years, but he was still a working professional for a good decade before that happened and that's not taken into account when you just look at dates of things being created. Also some sites like Artstation only existed for a couple years so it's not a good measure.

Popularity too is not the same across different artists. Some are popular among other artists and art directors, and some are popular with the general public but are not getting any jobs or are popular for reasons like doing fanart.

>Hm I think I might just analyze a batch of say 20 top popular artists
The top artists are not a good idea to analyze since by definition they are outliers so will not have taken the normal route to get there.

This is a good point and all very true. However I'm not that concerned about the 'serious' artists that build a career on skill, networking and being professional. My autism fueled research is more based aroun artists that basically banked on popularity, and have achieved considerable success on that avenue alone. Furry artists and tumblr artists mainly.

Your argument is still very valid though, dudes like Onta switched accounts eventually and probably already had a following which of course kickstarted things significantly, while others might simply have worked very little the first 4 years...

>>2725498

Another excellent point. How would I determine who the artists in the ranks 5-8 are? To avoid the top artists (9&10). It's all really hard to determine actually. Damnit.

Who are the popufurs and hentaifoundry-stars that are not superstars?

any chance you wanna share that tool op?

Use regression. There are programs that can choose the best fit for your model.

It's relatively steady but very slow, though the mean of how many notes per drawing are increasing (average is irrelevant considering occasionally one drawing will rocket and inflate the average). I'm not really sure if or when my blog itself will "take off" if ever.

The amount of gay pedo shit that I've seen over the course of moderating various forums and boards scarred me so much that I cannot bear to look at children anymore without thinking about it and feeling sick to my stomach.

I don't know why it's such a big deal to me, but this gif of yours gave me nam-tier flashbacks and now I want to throw up.

Like, I'm not a saint and it started off as "oh child porn hehehhe don't mind if I do" and the oversaturation just made me hate it and be disgusted by it even though I initially wasn't.

P = TxAxExFxCxDxp

P = popularity
T = Time
A = activity (frequency of posting)
E = exposure
F = fan service (drawing things people want to see)
C = communication with fans
D = drama
p = platforms (tumblr, furaffinity, facebook, DA) (hesitant to put this in, it's pretty much exposure)

If you play your cards right, it should be exponential because of exposure, where if someone reblogs/favorites your picture, then thats a link back to your page where someone else can find you. If someone puts you as the background of their 1 hour electro house song compilation, that's 200,000 views and maybe 100-1000 new follows?

Although it's randomly exponential. You don't know if it's going to be someone with 4 watchers or that youtube vid exposure.
>>
Way too many factors to determine. i had two tumblr blogs with very similar content, one of them got reblogged by someone popular and skyrocketed, the other one remained into oblivion (until i started to use the other one to boost it)
