does natural talent exist?

let's be real, shit like personalities, IQ, and genes could give an advantage to another person.

just like to archieve a medal fields you need a certain degree of IQ.

just like to compete in the olympics you need good genetics.

I'm sure something like that exist in art, sure anybody could be good, but there must be some natural diferences between people.

yes, but a more important question is: are you going to let that stop you?
>>
>>2684313
I have a hard time learning compared to others and I am much more prone to getting into a rut. Chances are that there is someone that is the exact opposite.
>>
>>2684313

There is but if you just obsses about it instead of puting actual work you're never evolve.

Turtle&rabbit fegget, how many hours did you train today?
>>
>>2684313
Yes, but it's highly complex and there's many facets to it. I learn quicker than most people, but I'm also highly depressed so can't focus well and don't practice much. Some people soak up techniques like it's breathing, but they can't do anything original or innovative. Some people can't help but do new original things. Some people learn quickly at the start but plateau, others need a long time for the talents to manifest.

If you've ever spent time looking at forums where people would regularly post their work and you could view their progress over the course of years, it becomes obvious some had more talent than others.
>>
>>2684317
>>2684324
I dunno, I'm still trying to figure out what are my natural talents.

I'm good for math and logic, even while art is my passion.

Maybe abstract art and art based on geometry and math is my real talent, but I see everyone here talking about figure drawing and waifus and porn.

Maybe I should study software engineering and use it to make art.

But everyone here will call me a faggot and get gud.
>>
>>2684313
I feel iq really does play a role, as well as the ability to focus well

Y'know, knowing what's working and what's not working and changing what you do based on that
I notice some people do the same things over and over expecting different results. Like those people who practice drawing without studying art and wonder why they aren't improving
>>
>>2684313
Yes. You literally have to be insane to think otherwise.
>>
>>2684345
can a logical (left brain) person do art?

what kind of art?
>>
>>2684352
Logical people are great with art dude

It's pretty mathematic and formulaic- angle/intensity of light. Perspective.
>>
>>2684331

>software
>enginering

You mean being a code monkey? then start learning c++ right about yesterday. Shh, no crying, those who say it's hard are no-efforters who will never do shit.

Now, if you wanna draw, get yourself comfy and a set of paper/pencil/eraser/whatever and start drafting some shit unti lyou get controll of yourself.

Now MOVE. The better you become, the more you enjoy the craft. You just have to stop with useless considerations and compromise yourself to improvement.
>>
>>2684354
>>2684356
maybe I shouldn't focus so much on figure drawing and focus more on what I enjoy.

maybe someone will care about geometry mixed with anime girls, who knows.

but this board is 99% figure drawing.
>>
>>2684358
>but this board is 99% figure drawing.
And there's good reason for that you whiner
If I have to explain why to you, just give up
>>
>>2684361
yeah, but not all art is figure drawing sperg.

geometry is also art.
>>
>>2684358

how bout sacred geometry?

you fags never talk about geometry and I like it.
>>
>>2684352
There's no such thing as a left or right brain person. Those are just gross over-simplifications from that shitty book.

That being said, talent isn't a binary trait that you either have or don't have. It's a combination of traits that can lead to very different results, skills and strengths. Talent is just a word that describes whether or not a person is born with a set of traits that gives them a noticeable advantage in art.
>>
>>2684369

I don't think you shouldn't try art, but learning about sacred geometry/phi/golden mean without the science involved is a waste of opportunity. I saw a guy on /sci/ who was doing a study about the geometry on a common egg, it was the tighest shit, eggs are awesome.
>>
>>2684313
Talent. Don’t bother about whether or not you have it. Just assume that you do, and then forget about it. Talent is a word we use after someone has become accomplished. There is no way to detect it before the fact, or when someone is still grappling with the learning process. It is impossible to predict when or if mastery will click into place. Besides, the thing we label as talent is not a single ability. It is a complex mixture of motive, curiosity, receptivity, intelligence, sensitivity, good teaching, perseverance, timing, sheer luck, and countless other things. If any part of it is genetic, God-given, the result of astrological fiddle-faddle, or destiny, that part is not the sole determining factor. All the other ingredients must be present in the right combination–and no one knows the exact recipe. Therefore Dear Reader, don’t waste time worrying if you are talented–and don’t blame any failures on the lack of it–that is really a cop-out.

“Alla Prima - Everything I Know About Painting” - Richard Schmid

Don't cop out, OP.
>>
>>2684426
To add: why the fuck would you want to do something just because it's easy? Don't be a pathetic loser who has to rely on immaterial, unverifiable, and ultimately inconsequential pseudoscience like "talent." It's just an excuse to quit.
>>
>>2684426
yeah, I like that quote. I read it when I had already found my determination but he puts it really well. No matter what, I'll keep trying because that's what I want to do, and I'll give it my best.
>>
Yes and no.

People can be born smarter.
Smarter people are better at learning.

Some people would have more passionate about art.
These people would be more motivated to do and learn art and would probably get more out of it.

And certain people will have different levels of competence when they just start art because of how they spent their childhood.
eg. A kid who does spends time playing with legos or other creative hobbies and analyzing the world around them (trying to figure out how shit works) will be a better artist than some kid that just plays sports.

'Talent' is just a combination of intelligence, passion and interests.
>>
its always nice to see ic be so ecouraging
>>
>>2684546
It's what we do, we're bad guys.
>>
In my experience, the people who are "naturally good" at art are the ones who kept drawing through their preteens and overcoming symbol drawing as their perceptions change. Like learning a language, it's much harder to learn once you're set in your ways.
>>
It would be idiotic to think talent doesn't exist or help, but it would be even more if you think it's the only factor to someone's success.

I'll be honest here, I still think you have to have some talent if you're going to become one of the best artist in the world, but you don't need it to become a very good one.
>>
>>2684313
My teacher used to say that he liked more to teach people "without talent" rather than talented people. He Said that talented people often think that the way they do things is Good and they don't need to improve, also, probably everyone mediocre in their lives told them that they are amazing so their narcisism is over the top.

On the other hand, people without talent are bashed by others and themselves so normally they study harder, because people don't constantly Tell them that their art is good.
>>
if you put your mind to it you can do anything
all else is just an excuse

Natural talent do exist. Those with talent, can definitely draw what they see, and draw from imagination.

But most of those with talent tend to overlook perseverance with maintaining and improving their skill.

Our brains are designed differently.

I believe you can re wire your brain and develope different skills, but you have to do that early on at an early age.

You know what I'm saying.

And no I don't think natural talent exists. It all comes down to how much work you put in.

If you have the type of personality that doesn't give up then you kind of have an advantage no matter what you try right? Stop worrying about some stupid "advantage" and just study. Its the only way to get better.

You could try doing 3D? it's actually pretty rewarding. But then again unless you're happy making other peoples models you do still need to understand the fundamentals of design and anatomy etc if you want to make anything worthwhile, or you'll be stuck making digital tutors tier shite.

Ok, you're right, we're all wrong. If you don't have natural talent at art you'll never get good. You already know what you want and that's to quit because you don't have le spark. Just do yourself a favor and quit now before you regret it, before you spend the rest of your life chasing the unattainable because you chose to believe in some spook instead. Go ahead and laugh at the rest of us who are actually trying to get better. Problem solved, now gtfo.
>>
yes, it was inevitable, if not impractical that i would be an art major, but ever since i could draw I've always been relatively good (by my standards) by everyone around me they're always telling me how good i was (drawing mainly) but i moved into sculpture and its still sort of that way. There will always be someone better, but yes natural talent does exist in the art world, some people just have a knack for it

Not in the way you think. Things might come easier to some types of brains, though some brains are better taught or developed than others due to environment, experience and lifestyle. It really depends on too many things. Being determinated is important, but might not work sometimes either, it all comes down on what the world and biology gives to you.

We still don't know what really causes those statistics. Statistics are not very reliable for us, other than viewing the effects of an hidden phenomenon really.

Yes, I believe natural talent exists and it affects the upper limit of your potential and how fast you can learn. However, I believe everyone can become a good artist if they put in the work. Natural talent only becomes apparent when you're comparing the legends to the good artists. Therefore if you're a shitter and you're complaining about lack of talent holding you back then just kill yourself.
