What do I have to do to draw like kim jung gi? What should you prioritize first? Even if it'll never be at his level.

Shit loads of boxes? Millions of perspective exercises? Photographic memory?
>>
yes boxes. learn the box , learn how to draw a cat , learn how to draw anatomy, and learn to visualize the boxes before you even draw and be able to break them down in your head.
>>
>>2677415
draw everything interests you, from every interesting angle, but do so without looking back and fort at your refs, you want to train your memory too. Look one or twice, then draw it a few times, then look again at it and see what you did wrong, then draw it again a few times and so on
>>
>>2677415
also learn the difference between gesture drawing and figure drawing

you want to do both to git gud
>>
>>2677415

Draw from life everyday. Try doing contour drawings directly in ink without a underlay, really helps confidence. Always carry a sketchbook in your pocket and a pen
>>
>>2677426
What good is contour drawing? I'm confused.
>>
>>2677430

Increases line confidence. Obviously you need to balance it with studying construction but drawing directly in ink is something you want to get comfortable with.
>>
>>2677415
>what do I have to do to draw like x artist?
Not ask /ic/ how to do it. KJG has lectures and demonstrations out and about already. Why are you here and not watching those? You're already fucking up.
>>
>>2677434

Look up chromatinker's blog, he is good at that kind of stuff. One of the better guys around here.
>>
Great artists are 90% fundamentals and 10% creativity and style.
Practice the fundamentals until you have perfected them from memory, then apply what you would like to them.

kek, you're not gonna make it. Kim has eidetic memory, that isn't something you can learn.

he's playing on cheat mode
>>
>>2677442
i'd say it's more 60/40 tbqhfam
>>
>>2677438
>chromatinker
he's an /ic/ anon?
>>
>>2677613
maybe for modern art

not illustration
>>
>>2677613
>>2677617
>60% fundamentals
>modern art

I would rather say

academic art 90/10
illustration 60/40
modern art 10/10
>>
>>2677438
hey chromatinker, fancy seeing you here
>>
just keep drawing boxes until it clicks
>>
>>2677438
he's not bad with his lines but god don't use his stuff as an example to follow

Is this one of the most frequently asked questions on /ic/??

Let's list them:

1. How do I draw like Kim Jung Gi?
2. How do I draw like Ruan Ji?
3. How do I build a Patreon like _____?
4. ????
>>
Learn to freehand curvilinear perspective really well, do exercises freehand rotating boxes in space. Do lot's of studies to build a big visual library. Do figure drawing, focus heavily on the construction stage.
>>
>>2677641
>I would rather say
>
>academic art 90/10

>modern art 10/10

I'm guessing what you wanted to say was 10%/10%. 10/10 is the same as 1/1 or 500/500
>>
>>2677691
>I'm guessing what you wanted to say was 10%/10%. 10/10 is the same as 1/1 or 500/500

1/1 or 500/500 in the end is 1
90/10 is 9 and 60/40 is 1.5

even by your line of thinking modern art is shitier. But you know what I meant from the first time, stop pretending you are retarded.
>>
>>2677697
if he's defending modern art he may not be pretending
>>
>>2677697
So now you try to argue that you were not trying to convey distribution? Stop being butt hurt, dimwit.
>>
>I observe things all the time. I don’t take references while I’m drawing, but I’m always collecting visual resources. I observe them carefully on daily basis, almost habitually. I study images of all sorts and genres, "Kim said, adding that he's been passionate about art since he was a kid

Dude has decades of life drawing experience. There is no shortcut to get on this level of autism. That said most don't really need that level of line work.
>>
>>2677608

You're just taking the easy way out by giving excuses. Of course it can be trained, not in higher detail than actual idetic memory, but it's still possible. As KJG said, he would look at objects for hours, feel them, try to immerse himself and then test his understanding of the object. It's only repetition, keep really looking at everything, not just watching, but really trying to understand why and how they work visually and in space. Don't draw while looking at said object, memorize it and draw it without the reference. It's possible, just practice.
>>
>>2677663
Why not?
>>
>>2677608

Doesn't matter. James Gurney uses tons of references and even builds and lights models out clay and Styrofoam to get the look right.

He certainly isn't drawing from memory.

You have to find the methods that work for YOU!
>>
>>2680742
>always collecting visual resources
Gee, Kim, I do that all the fucking time too. Too fucking bad memory doesn't play like that and you need a ref.
>>
>>2681613
there are plenty of actual professional artists you could be getting your knowledge from and books you could be reading to get to the same point
>>
>>2681708
No. All professional artists draw from memory and never use references. This is true because /ic/ says so and they know more about learning and art than real artists who have made more money on one painting than 95% of these autists ever will make in their lives drawing robots, knights, and porn
