have you guys ever tried drawing without pressure sensitivity ? i feel like i have much more control over my painting when i use that method (it works best on a huge-ass canvas)
>>2661948
I've done quite a bit of painting on the ipad with procreate this summer with a cheap five dollar stylus with no pressure sensitivity. It has been a real eye opener and really makes you think before making a mark.
I also sometimes draw without pressure sensitivty in photoshop when doing gestural stuff and laying in a figure. It can be more direct that way.
>>2661948
I used to use pressure sensitivity religiously, but in the last year I've re learned the value of turning it off every now and then. I usually have transfer on (which uses pressure to determine how opaque the stroke is) but it's absolutely not necessary to have shape dynamics pressure sensitivity on all the time.
>>2661976
...anon, that's just normal painting.
Why would you even want the pressure to control both opacity and size? That's just counter-productive.
>>2661948
pressure sensitivity is honestly completely unneeded. As long as the brush isn't a hard pixel brush and you can color pick to blend you can do pretty well without. I never use size sensitivity but I also never do lineart.
I used to draw in sumopaint at my callcenter job all the time, used a mouse, aside from the colors being super fucked on the shitty monitors it wasn't that bad and you can still get decent blending pretty easily.
Not relying on pressure sensitivity is better on your hand/wrist too, at least for me.
>pic sorta related
>>2662000
is the pic related your art ? this is so fuckin good....
There's pros and cons to painting transparently and pros and cons to opaque painting. Painting opaque takes a lot more discipline but can result in better shapes and decisions and a greater solidity. Transparency is good for subtleties and textures.
I use both but urge people to experiment using only one or the other.
brb trying your method
>>2662003
yeah its some of the stuff i'd draw at work. thanks!
>>2662042
you are welcome !
>>2661948
I recently stopped using pressure sensitivity. It makes me think more about values and it creates a more solidified confident build up of colors. It just looks heavier and more solid.
>>2662040
im back
damn OP, you are a fuckin genius - it works wonders !

oh c'mon anon, they are just being nice, which is quite rare in this shithole of a site...

hows your fine art degree coming along?
i gotta try that, it will make me more disciplined
>>2662152
Dude it's a button in photoshop. Your instinct is to turn it on and leave it on but there is value in turning it off how the hell is that an elitist stance?
Stop posting here if you're gonna be a twat.
Having both on all the time wasn't counter productive for me. I just re discovered the use of turning it off.

If you're actually wondering its Ruan Jia

>coming up with placebo benefits for not using something that was invented for a reason to feel like a special snowflake
Lmao you're like that one faggot kid who brings ink and quill to a lecture where everyone is using pens. I have been drawing with a mouse for 2 years before I got my tablet and guess what? My art improved in every way once I could use pen pressure.
Making it hard for yourself =/= pious art improvement regimen

>>2661982
...dude, what? So you can do stuff like this
>>2662287
you will need it if you do anime/stylized stuff, but if you want to do realistical stuff, its really not necessary...

Does this guy use pressure/opaque sensitivity?
>>2662304
A computer is unnecessary to produce art. Why are you even using it?
>>2662304
Just stop.
>>2661948
I only use it for flow or not at all.
>>2662322
because it's cheaper to use than keep buying paints.
>>2662287
when are you doing stuff like that? do you have examples of your work?
I can see having pressure changing size for some lineart stuff but even then its pushing it..
I just use wacom wheel to slowly shrink the brush. I could be really bad but the size variation stuff makes it much harder to control/feel unified
>>2662337
And wont give you cancer
>>2662314
Newfag here. Just wanted to know why didn't he start with colors if it was going to be a colored piece?
>>2662442
It helps you ensure your values are good.
>>2662337
But that's what makes you think right???
When you have limited paint you consciously make decisions the make the best use of it, so that's a even better way to improve if you insist that handicapping yourselves is any useful. You lazy hypocrites just resent anything that's actually close to an arduous process. I bet you never picked up a brush in your life.
I love pressure sensitivity.
I have some brushes without it but those are mostly for backgrounds and blocking in.
>>2662460
No dude I'm just poor.
Watercolors are the only ones I use traditionally because they're so cheap and last long.
Digital is best for me because it doesn't really cost anything in the long run, other than electricity but my pc is on all the time anyway so I'm not losing anything there.
>>2662460
And I bet after all that traditional painting you have done you still suck ass at it. Hence your condescending tone, thinking you can look down on digital artists by feeling superior purely based on the medium you chose to use.
>>2662469
When was this ever about which medium is the best? I was pointing out why handicapping yourself by disabling pressure sensitivity is pretentious and useless. All these bullshit "art gainz" they are inventing are just excuses to be a special snowflake. People ITT think they are hot shit for forgoing pen pressure but take for granted all the other conveniences digital painting affords.
What country are you from? Because its literacy rate just dropped.
Read the thread next time.
Often digital turns out worse than traditional because the software adds a lot of simulated effects that don't quite match up to reality. So turning them off can provide better control and bring you closer to what you intended.
>>2662314
Does anyone know? I have hard time seeing it.
>>2662618
Ok, thank you anon
>>2662482
so you dont think turning of the pressure sensetivity to make if feel closer to traditional art is just because people wanna be special? not because it has a the regular feeling of a real pen to it so its easier for some ? nice going
