>got new art friend
>his art sucks
>I'm still worse
What should I do in this dilemma? I can't compliment him but I also can't tell him that his work sucks.
>not taking the opportunity to be art rivals that communicate with one another
I'm with this art rival relationship with this one artist on pixiv. never talked to him but his skill level was so close to mine, it was uncanny.
I don't hate him tho, but I'm inspired to exceed beyond him; kind of like a race thing on who gets gud first.

Rivalry kinda sucks in real life. It's not anywhere as exciting as the usual romantic rivalry in fiction. You also can only do it with very specific people.
Then you better get better so you can crit him to pieces.

Nah it's all about having a good mentality about it, also not being on bad terms
I had a running rival in school for track, and even just thinking of her made my heart race and got me excited in a non sexual way, helps that we were friends and were in other clubs together
I still remember when she moved away and thinking I'd probably never have that same level of rivalry with anyone ever again
