TUTORIAL THREAD

You can use a gradient map on greyscale to have the same result in 5 seconds
>>2634815
You still need to paint the highlights and using layer modes hardly takes a lot of time either. It's not like there is any advanced geometric LAB color hue shifting going on in the tutorial either, so my conclusion is that you're simply throwing out buzzwords without any real knowledge of digital painting. But if you can convince me that gradient maps would be beneficial in this case I'm open minded

Layers are amazing.
You can always create a layer above the one you're working on and merge down every now and then. You can get some clean edges that way
>>2635135
thank you jesus I needed this
>>2635115
The less layers you use the harder yet more rewarding it is. It's very rare to have someone only use one layer.

Sorry to distract from the image dump with some meta talk. There's been a serious lack of traditional media tutorials out there, right? It's not just me? I feel like around 2006-2007, all I'd see were Copic tutorial this, Copic that. Are people still interested in these types of tutorials? I'd like to make some more up-to-date tutorials, but not if no one is going to care, you know?

2-Only constructive criticism will be accepted. Rude or offensive comments will result in a ban.
>> Rude or offensive comments will result in a ban.
Sorry, but /ic/ has the same problem of /i/, /3/ and all other art related boards: absolute lack of moderation. It only ONE mod were paying attention to what happens here, half of the flamers who infest this board would have their IP range banned and we would actually talk about techniques, tools and solutions instead of searching /b/ for new methods to insult flamers back.

Whilst using curves instead of lines may make things more "interesting" it would be far better to actual consider the lighting/atmosphere and how it would physically alter the base colors in the scene.

100% OPACITY ONE LAYER FINAL DESTINATION
...that being said, painting on one layer is good for you and your skill. Also in that way you are painting more like traditional painters which will show in your work.

I agree, albeit I don't have much experience with a tablet. I just think, that you cheat yourself of knowledge if you rely on these "tools" instead of your own abilities. Not only is it a test/challenge, but it will increase your understanding of color theory and help you be more confident in your work!
>>2642637

>>2655630
coloured pencils are opaque, that makes it easier
>>2655630
That's too expensive to do reliably. You have to look at all your colors. It's better you just learn value through your pencil and once you've got that down, transition to digital is no problem.

Painting landscapes are a fucking joke, because of how easy they are to do. There's a reason why Bob Ross stuck to doing them instead of portraits or avant-garde pieces.
Your brain can much easily register a bunch of squiggly lines as some grass or an oceanfront with "hyperrealistic detail", and people will succ you off with compliments and compare you to Van Gogh because they conceive that to be deep and masterful.
