>get used to reading art critiques on /ic/
>can't enjoy /c/ anymore

>pic related
>those legs

why do you do this /ic/
>>
>>2623217
theyre not so bad

one thing i learned from a great teacher, he said don't let yourself become too elitist. He never elaborated, but i always allow myself to ignore some flaws in people's work
>>
>>2623228
For some reason this comment hit home for me. Especially since /ic/ gets crazy sometimes. Seriously, one of the better pieces of advice on here.
>>
>>2623228
Good advice
>>
>>2623228
great teacher indeed.
>>
this would be like critiquing a riced up jap car as though it's parked up at a antique road show. it's just gonna ruin your fun man.

you gotta learn when a mind-set is or isn't relevant to each particular context, that's all.
>>
>>2623217
Once you get good at art yourself you'll get past the "muh anatomy" phase and start to appreciate this type of art again for its pretty neat aesthetics and lines, despite also noticing some anatomy errors.
>>
>>2623217
Someone tell me what's wrong with the legs?
>>
>>2623387
i have no idea either.
>>
>>2623387
>>2623451
I don't think the issue is with the legs themselves but rather with how the upper body connects to the legs. Either she is sitting straight, then the legs should be further back or she is sitting a bit slouched, then her stomach shouldn't be so straight.

But if you look at the buttons of the shirt, then it's obvious that your redline of the "error" is incorrect. The error is minimal at best and a fine example of some /ic/ fags being shitlords.
>>
>>2623217
Most of /ic/ would sell their soul to draw like that though.

This forum amazes me.
It is the most overly critical, nasty place.
You have managed to create an environment so toxic that everyone tells everyone else they are wrong constantly. Its gotten so meta that when one user creates a thread to say an artist is wrong, he now gets told he is wrong for saying the artist is wrong.

I think everyone here just wants to be right constantly.

If he had posted this as his own work and said it was good, this thread would be dedicated to telling him how shit it is, but since he posted to say it is wrong, this thread is now about telling him he is wrong.

People look at pictures in a second and get a quick idea of what they're seeing.
Be more worried about poor fundamentals which are immediately noticeable, than small details that most will never consider.
Along with that, sometimes anatomy is fucked up but focal points distract us from it.
Took me a while to notice the fucked up arm in pic related.
>>
>>2623526
Well said.
>>
>>2623528
Japs draws without references tho.
When some people start going to gym, they spread everywhere about their "knowledge" of lifting
When some peopel start learning how to draw, they spread everywhere their epic critique and "knowledge" about anatomy.
When people start reading projectrho.com, they spread everywhere their pseudointellectual shit about how unrealistic and shitty movies/books/comics/real life/etc.

GOD BLESS DUNNING KRUGGER
>>
>>2623508
I dunno, you are right, the error isn't that large.
Maybe I'm reading it like that because the stomach area isn't bunched up enough?

The more I think about it the more it looks to me. I just tried sitting in that pose irl and it seems impossible. And the heels would make it even harder. Her femur is extremely long.

>>2623526
No, fuck you.
Talking about potential flaws in a drawing on an art critique board doesn't make this place "nasty" or "overly critical". It is literally the point of this board.
Nobody in this thread even said OP is wrong, look at the posts, they're all about how you shouldn't focus on details when the overall pictures works. Nobody said OP is wrong.

You didn't outright say otherwise, but just so you know: Pointing out a flaw in a drawing doesn't mean you hate the drawing or the artist. Pointing out flaws isn't hateful or "toxic".
>>
>>2623526
This place has problems and used to be better, but /ic/ is where you go to kill your ego.
If your attitude is "my art is good, prove me wrong", instead of plainly asking for critique, then you probably have a harmful, personal relationship to your own art; bad for your own development. The natural reaction will be to prove you wrong to every detail to not only show why your skills are shit, but for you to develop as a person and disassociate yourself from how good or bad you imagine your art to be.
You'll get a different reaction when discussing work by other artists because; it's not like the artist is going to come over here and see it. The mistakes are just there now, they are not fixable anymore, so instead you'll see people discussing why it is that the image still manages to work on an appealing level.
The contrast is; getting good skills vs being able to sell a product to a market/demographic.
Your art should be good, but also be able to sell to an audience. Basically, art and life is full of contradictions, and it's up to you to find a balance.
>>
>>2623547
With those "redlines" >>2623472 you're not in position to talk anything about "flaws".
>>
>>2623546
>Japs draws without references tho
Not every Asian person is Kim Jung Gi.
Westerners also draw without reference, because they've already drawn the things a lot before.
Korean and Japanese people have a stronger work ethic though and will shit out drawings left and right while westerners are busy playing videogames

that picture was a bad example, because i actually like it. i guess my point didn't go over as i thought it would.

Shit redline would be a complement for you. You don't even know how wrong you are.
>>

Oh, my bad, I completely forgot that there is a rule that you can't talk about art unless you have mastered the craft. Lucky I'm not banned yet, eh?

>>
>>2623612
How exactly am I a pompous asshole? If you don't like that "fuck you" gibe, I get that, it's pretty crude but come on, we are on 4chan here.

None of my posts ever implied that I think I'm good at drawing. I never implied that my redline was correct, just that it was my opinion. My post, even if you disagree with it, is coherent, or you would've already told me otherwise.

I find it curious that you think I'm the asshole when there are actually other toxic poster in here, these guys: >>2623556 >>2623591. These guys are what's wrong with /ic/ and fortunately there aren't too many of them. I state and explain my opinion and they go "well, your opinion is wrong and you are shit, bye!". But let's not forget, I'm the asshole here.
>>
>>2623387
If I had to give my opinion, it'd be that the femurs are too long in respect to the tibia or the tibia is too short in respect to the femurs. That's just my guess though. I'd go with the former just because the thighs looks unnaturally long to me.

Your teacher gave you good advice.

>>2623526
You sound like a total newfag but you're right. A couple years ago mainstream social network people started appearing here, and since then things really went downhill.
>>
>>2623719
First pic is still wrong. It was clearly made to troll.
>>
>>2623719
Both show perceived ability on the Y axis and actual ability on the X axis. The difference is that one is based on data and the other is not.
>>
>Love drawing
>Start improving a bit
>Come to /ic/ to get tips as I feel I'm stagnating
>Very harsh, but justified criticism.
>Lose motivation to continue
>Start getting really critical of other people's art
>When I see something that I previously would have been in awe of, I either look for flaws or just don't appreciate it.

I lost my whimsy here. My spark has been snuffed out; I don't draw at all anymore. I only came here to see what's been happening lately and all I see is porn threads and people bitching about people making money from porn drawing.
>>
>>2624771
You have quit because people on /ic/ were being assholes? Wrong choice my man.
>>
>>2623526
Yeah but at least here theres a chance of getting balanced critique instead of "LOOOOL IZ SO GOOOD XD :33"
>>
>>2624599
Actual ability is not the X axis, it's the diagonal that reads 'actual test score'

This place is like a cold tundra. Only the strongest of plants survive. The weak get snuffed out.

Are you telling me that you're weak? Because that's what I'm getting from you.
>>
>>2624771
this is why you dont listen to what most of the fucking wanks on this board tell you. Almost all the critique you get is from amateur artists no better than yourself. The "Post your work :^)" meme is actually pretty valid when someone is giving citique
