There's no catch; PayPal was losing out an huge revenue by not allowing payment for adult content through their service and didn't have much viable competition, but Patreon, however, was starting to move in on the market. PayPal decided it would be in its own best interest to cut a deal with Patreon so that terms and image wouldn't have to be changed, but they could also make money in a field they were left out of. A somewhat wise decision, since Patreon was taking their business from people who pay for non-pornographic artwork as well.
