Got any suggestions when it comes to colours? I'm thinking of a not overly saturated pastel palette.

Your lines are very solid. What you need to improve is perspective on those characters, especially if you are going to make a comic. Your symbols come across quite okay because your line confidence is good, but perspective-wise you're not there yet. Also learn to draw hands.
And yes, I think this style is perfect for a comic.
