What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

Like that chick in Wreck it Ralph I guess though I haven't seen it, but the whole point of that character archetype is that you get the urge to protect them, maternal/paternal instincts. I fixed the notification but I didn't reenable it because there was a bug where it would only use the token and not eliminate the person if they didn't have a token. It's a quick fix but I slacked off on it because of the comic challenge and I wasn't sure if that's how it should happen.
I played around with a warning system where if you were punished for low effort you'd be warned instead of losing your token/being eliminated but that can be abused and used like a second token.
I mentioned before but I've been struggling with a cooldown system on ending up in the tribunal where it temporarily takes more reports for a user to be tribunalled so they have a chance to fix what they were previously punished for. Because of the delay with the way the system works it'd be possible to be punished for low effort, lose your token and then be punished again the next day for your previous day's submission.
Lastly I changed it so you can't have multiple submissions in the tribunal at once to prevent the double punish instant elimination.
I work on it every night and my biggest concern is making something that's both fair and effective. It shouldn't be too much longer since all that's left is the elimination bug and I need to make the changes to prevent multiple cases at once

It was easy to focus on my art when I didn't have time to think or focus because of school but now that it's summer I have nothing but time. The tribunal is just about ready so I want to talk about what's next on the list: the weekly challenge.
The original plan was to pretty much make one of the daily topics last for a week so people could have more time to work on something and really show off what they could do. The problem with that is that it's boring and really complicates an existing feature without adding enough value to make up for it.
So instead of a "Weekly Challenge" there'll be "Challenges."
Any user with a streak > 7 will be able to create a challenge. They'll need to provide a name for it, rules, a start date and end date. Anyone can join and challenges will show up on the user's profile. If you create a challenge and nobody joins then it'll close automatically. You can't have more than one challenge open at a time.
There are a lot of details to figure out like minimums and maximum times, etc but I think it's a good way to bundle a lot of different features together into one big one. I can also set it up with things like vote for a winner, challenges that require daily posts, private invite only challenges, etc. I don't know how cancerous stuff like that would be so I'll use polls to see how people feel about them.
I like the idea and the only real downside is that I can see someone begging in the thread for people to join their challenge which is like.. fuck off. Other than that I think it has potential to be fun. What do you guys think?

Busy day and now sleepy again but looked through some of your painting stuff anyway
It looks like you're on a good track with experimenting and such, but I'm not sure what you want to paint as an end goal since it's just headshots so far. If you want to do specifically portraits that's fine but your sketches are mostly figures so I wasn't sure.
On technicalities I'd say you should consciously look into values, edges and texture. Having the background a different texture from the rest will instantly make things pop out more, and then a different way of stroking out the hair compared to how you would smooth out the face, etc. Edges can be a pain but are vital if you want to do figure and face stuff, check out Sargent for the best portrait edges.
Some lighting wouldn't go amiss either but that comes after the other things I would think and also needs your value game to be on point so don't worry about it.
Honestly just pump things out and try out a variety of different brushes and approaches. I think I paint kind of erratically and although I think of it like oil painting, if I tried to do it IRL like I do digitally I would use up so so much paint by going over myself correcting and changing things. After a few experiments and tweaking brushes and approaches you find something you like, and then keep that in the back of your mind while exploring onto the next thing, and then combine them all on some paintings. Study things that you find really beautiful or just nice shapes; it's all about the big blocks with painting rather than the lines, some shapes are just plain sexy. Also watch traditional painting on yt and try them out, things like oils and watercolour and guache are all such different processes.
Hope some of that helps, I ramble when I'm tired though so my bad.

Actinfutility if you're really this level and trying to get gud rather than trolling us then I say don't take things as seriously. You're at the beginning of the journey and it's important that you just mess around a bit and find things you like to draw and paint. If you dive straight into studies and anatomy first and then worry about if you'll "make it" in a couple years time all day then you're just shooting yourself in the foot and the pressure and bad feels will probably make you stop arting.
What kind of things do you like to watch/read/play? Any artists you absolutely love and want to paint like, or universes you want to create? Like more into fantasy, sci fi, spooky sci fi aliens, etc etc.
I think learning to enjoy yourself doodling and sketching for the sake of it it massively underrated here, and should be one of the first if not the first thing you try to cultivate and encourage.

Same fears here. Gonna sound edgy but I don't care about the people here, I can't really relate to anyone and I've started to like LAS less and less since streams and now chats have been popping up, it doesn't feel the same anymore and I'm not too fond of all this faggotery. Threads don't feel fun anymore either. In the end LAS just feels like a clock I need to push once a day. It's been 4 months now, so if I can't draw without LAS at this point then there'd truly be no hope for me, right? LAS won't always be there for me, how would I manage in the future without it?
Those are the kinds of thoughts I've had today. A part of me really wants to quit but I'm scared to regret it. I'm scared of reverting back to my old self always searching the dumbest excuses to get myself to not draw and waste my time instead. You're in a pretty similar place to me. I really dislike most of the community. LAS got me drawing again so I'm grateful, but after the first month or two it just became a nuisance and a stress in my life. I think now it actually makes me draw less for various reasons, and some days the best thing I could be doing to improve at drawing isn't actually drawing.
I'm still having trouble letting go but when I do I think I'll be better for it.

I really do like LAS. There have been too many days where if I didn't have LAS I would not have drawn, and then I'd make a case for not drawing the next day once I've broken my streak.
I'm just conflicted about the way things are now. I don't have serious art friends, and at the start I was hoping this might lead to some friendships. I second more hands. Also more of those perspective/foreshortening studies would do you some good, and I think your legs feel a bit flat sometimes. Also not all feet look like high heels.
I like your stuff but it seems just general anime sketches. I can't tell from it whether you want to draw characters or manga or whatever or be an illustrator or something else. Your figure drawing skills are pretty good, now figure (heh) out what to do with them.

Different anon but the book people always recommend is Animators survival guide, not sure how much there is on timing there though.
Animation is like any art t b h, all about the observation. Anticipation is a key part of things too, like say when Tom is picking up something heavy to smash Jerry with, you can feel the weight and strain and then see the weight about to shift, tipping over the edge if that makes sense. Or more subtly, if someone's easing themself out of a chair their arms will move first and start to heave the rest of them out, with the torso then pelvis following reluctantly.
Give the survival guide a read either way since it's apparently the bible for this kind of stuff, and look at how a bouncing ball will fall faster and then slow and linger at the top of a bounce, stuff like that.
I'd say study Disney or Pixar stuff more than anime, a lot of that is pretty weak technically. Moeshit focuses more on the faces and is pretty static, and a lot of the fight scene type animes just ignore weight completely and have people zoom and float around. There's always exceptions though, some will be well animated.

I'll vouch for the Animator's survival guide. Timing is one of the 12 principles that drives great animation, and it aims to teach all 12. I've not really tried my hand at animating, yet, but every animator I know, have spoken to, or even just heard/read about has stood by it.

Left is common beginners mistake. Right is what should happen. (The ends are the start and end point of an action, with the notches representing a frame of the action)
The more frames, the slower the action, less frames is a faster action. A bullet coming out of a gun would start faster and end slower, someone going down a slide would start slower and end faster.
For me it helps to imagine the speed of each movement and map it out with notches before actually animating.

Everything the other anons suggested is legit but I'd like to add something; I can tell that the ability is there, but the most important thing in animation is to accurately depict something happening and that's really missing in your animations. Really think about what the character is supposed to be doing, what is happening, and properly key out the motion before doing anything else. Like with the girl in the skirt in your last submission- what is she doing? The viewer is a sheep, they won't know what's going on unless it's very clear.
There was another one way back of a guy moving his head: is he stretching? Is he looking around?

actinfutility here, I usually like to watch the recent super hero dc shows as of late like the flash and arrow.
I kinda don't what kind of universes I want to create, but in all honesty. I just want to make it look good. That's all I care about, that it please people in a justifiable level.
