I'd start by taking the individual voices (drums, choir, chimes, etc) and turn them into forms with colors and shapes that evoke their particular mood ignoring every other part of the song. The work those into an overall design that focuses entirely on shape language that expresses a few keywords (like sad and nostalgic). "Abstract" is really vague, but if you have some kind of way to map sounds to bits of a picture you can probably brute force your way to something that's aesthetically pleasing while having enough justification to be able to talk about it. Your mileage may vary.

Disclaimer: I think most abstract art is bullshit.

OP is baiting, but just in case:

1. Lots of abstract art actually looks like color studies.

So:

- keep your design simple, color study should be completed under 2h
- use flat design, avoid mixing of the colors
- see "Color" by David Hornung for more

2. Composition. Think about it hard. If you want to abstract a song with rhytmic beat that "goes up and down", you could think about symmetric circular composition that is attacking a viewer, splashing/bouncing and another one from the background emerges to do the same.

Something like a trail of ellipses going towards the viewer with symmetric bouncing vibrant circles around it.

...buuuuuut you could do lower level of abstraction and try something like seeing volume levels or frequency plots of a song and say, represent it with simple shapes like colorful triangles or rhombes.

3. Again about color. Think about it hard because it's probably what is most important in abstract art. For example Rothko paintings were fuckhuge and were meant to be viewed up close so the color/painting would "swallow" the viewer

Really, colors + simple shapes should be used to convey emotions. Song is vibrant - vibrant colors. Beat, repetitive elements - bouncing balls. Female voices with choir exploding from time to time - colorful shadow exploding behind each ball.

Really, try to be imaginative and prepared to talk bullshit.

Abstraction is simplification in some way. You need to be analytical and try to break down the process or in this case - song - to its basic elements.
