Well actually I would recommend "figure drawing, Design and invention" by Michael hampton. His method isn't to teach you to "DRAW PERFECT HUMANS FROM LIFE" but explains many methods for structuring a drawing that can be applied to what ever style you wish.

Yeah, it seems quite obvious since your painting skills are basically at rock bottom. You should be able to quickly rough in a couple backgrounds like this in 18 minutes. The first one took 8 minutes while the mountain one took 10 minutes without any references(I only blocked in the major shadows, texturing and detailing would take longer). Spending 3 hours on just the background should mean you're rendering but you clearly are guessing and struggling for longer than you should. Learn how to paint from dark to light, how to block in your values as shapes and learn about shifting your shadows towards cooler desaturated colors and shifting your lights to warmer desaturated colors.

Well, I wasn't really all that serious going into painting, I guess. I don't read books or tutorials or anything like that, I just felt like watching Bob Ross and wondered whether or not I could do that digitally. I've no prior experience with painting before, so it's no wonder I'm at rock bottom. (I just started experimenting two weeks ago)

Right now, It's more of a fun hobby than a study. Still, that's no reason to not improve. A timelapse or something would really help me out here, If you've got the time. I'm mostly interested on how to do that bush on the left there, since grass and leaves are where I'm having the most troubles in. Yeah there is, like I said this is just the very early start, so still adding bases and layers (and undoing lots when I fuck up.) There are going to be teachers as well. Also you are correct in regards to the squatting slav. I just want Korelai to be included in the group so a nice class photo would be nice.
