A thread in another board inspired me to actually try to learn how to draw.
Instead of wasting a bunch of time like when I learned Japanese, I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.
The extent of my current artistic ability is stick figures and a geometric checkerboard I painted half a decade ago in highschool.
I am sure, like anything, the only answer is practice practice practice, but I do enjoy having a roadmap. Helps me stay focused through the most difficult part, which is beginning.

Try Loomis' books. They're great for starters, from simple cartoons to realistic figures to paintings.
