Feel free to dump any decent painting, drawing or sculpture
Thanks for the paintings
I prefer modern art; with blank canvases and human shit on plates. Really gets ya thinking.

Nobody gives a fuck inch about you, nobody asked, nobody wondered...just another anonymous, slighty sociopathic, autist with an empty opinion. Now go and smear your dung on a plate and try to sell it to your midterm school janitor.

painting by Jan Matejko finished in 1862. This painting was acquired by the Warsaw National Museum in 1924. During World War II it was looted by the Nazis and subsequently seized by the Soviet Union, returned to Poland around 1956.
It is one of Matejko's most famous works and the one that launched him to fame. It has been described as one of the most recognizable paintings in the Warsaw National Museum, and widely recognized in Poland.

Question for those that know classic art...why do >99% of the classic female nudes have "Barbie Doll" features in their pubic area?
I have tons of beautiful classic nudes and it's rare to see one anatomically correct. What gives?

plz bro.
I have no idea if here or /his/ is the right place to post this, but someone tossed a crumpled, ripped ball of paper onto my dad's coworker's desk today. He brought it to me and apparently it's by Roi George Partridge and dated 9/4/21 in pencil (was 8/4 but was written over with 9). I can't find this particular picture looking at his works, and it's in a sorry state (some pieces are hanging on by a fiber). I also don't know if it's an etching or an original drawing, because the ink lines feel like they were drawn but there's a ridge around the image like a plate was pressed into the page.
Can you guys tell me anything or would you advise I go to /his/?
First time on this board so I apologize for my scanner beforehand.

Modern Art is literally everything between cave paintings and deviantart.
You mean contemporary art, which is an extension of modern art.
That being said, no one here appreciates your sarcasm. Now fuck off to /b/.
>>2597304
ayyyyyy
It's an etching. Google Roi George Partridge and take the link for annex gallery. There you will find that pristine examples of his etchings go for between 700 and 1500 dollars but in such a state as yours it's an ebay job.
One of my favourites by Hans Hassenteufel. Can someone remove the watermark or post a higher res pic please?

Because social norms have traditionally considered it indecent to depict the female pudenda in detail, and classical aesthetics considered body hair ugly.
While it was fairly common in mediaeval art (e.g., the Ghent altarpiece depicts Eve with copious pubic hair), once the Renaissance got into full swing, body hair in general was excised, and only started coming back in with the romantics (see >>2597290, which was the first prominent post-mediaeval example).
And while historical norms allowed showing male gentialia as long as the penis was not erect and the glans was not exposed (circumcision being unheard of among non-Jews in those days), feminine modesty precluded depicting the vulva. This gradually changed over the course of the 20th century, but it's worth noting that, in the world of photography, even Playboy avoided showing the vulva until 1975 (and not hairless until the late '90s, IIRC). Even today, the line between "legitimate" or "tasteful" art and pornography is commonly understood to lie between merely showing the pudendal cleft on the one hand, and showing "pink" (open labia) on the other.
>>2653890
It should be mentioned that this piece was painted for a private collector, was not publicly exhibited (save at auction) until the 1980s, IIRC, and has only been on permanent museum display since 1995. Even today it is controversial, and in 1866 it would have gotten Courbet brought up on obscenity charges. As it was, Goya's painting above (also originally for a private collector) got him hauled before the Inquisition in 1808, although he was eventually acquitted. Many artists, even earlier, painted works like this on commission (and often anonymously or under a pseudonym) which they would never have been able to offer for public sale. See, for instance, "Venus Playing with Two Doves," attributed to Boucher, which would have been regarded as at least marginally pornographic in the 18th century (can't find a HR pic, or I'd post it).
(cont. from >>2659332)
Personally, I don't find it too jarring in pictures like >>2652963. The way she is standing, with no thigh-gap, her vulva would probably be pretty well hidden anyway, so it's not really anatomically incorrect (aside from the lack of hair, but I tend to side with the classicals on that point, while regarding realism I have no idea whether Arab slave girls shaved or not).
>>2652966 is a more problematic example, to my mind. Given that the pose is not an especially classical one, and probably borderline with regard to contemporary standards of decency anyway, I have to wonder what the point was. Certainly, many artists of the same era felt comfortable at least showing a hint of something there (as in >>2658569).
