>that disappeared so quick in Japan after the arrive of the europeans

Uh, no it didn't.
>>
It wasn't Europeans. Samurai culture was alive and well until rebels took down the shogunate.
>>
samurai culture persisted until the restoration in which the han system was abolished and the samurai were made jobless
>>
Because the samurai were outdated once the Tokugawa's were thrown off and country went into full westernization.

However the new modernized Japan heavily endorsed samurai traditions as a part of new Japanese nationalism.
>>
with power transfered to a modern state, samurai culture stopped being grounded in necessity and became a meme

It didn't.
>>
It didn't disappear entirely. The same code of conduct can be seen in their work-enbironment tbqh.

It was more a reinvention of samurai culture to serve the state, than actual samurai culture.
>>
It changed from being warriors to being bureaucrats.

>Samurai culture
You're implying the whole fucking country was in on the act when in reality it was just the fucking elite.

Peasants and Town-Dwellers weren't expected to behave like Samurai. Would be nice if they did, senpai, but none of the warrior class expected it of them.

The Japanese people didn't like Samurai culture.

The Japanese Imperial Family didn't like Samurai culture.

Get your romanticist shit out of here.

The Samurai were basically just as tyrannical as medieval knights, if not more. There's a reason the Japanese Imperial Family was never overthrown - they liberated the people from the Military Dictatorship of the Shogunate/Samurai class, which then tried to retake power when Hirohito was in power. The Americans stopped that.

Bushido itself is not "Samurai Culture", Bushido is a part of Japanese culture as a whole.

The Imperial Family was just propped up by yet another clique of Samurai who hated the Tokugawa's guts. And merely dropped the facade of Samuraing because they wanted white people to respect Nips but still had that militaristic culture going on.

Only this time they nationalized it and included footsoldiers in on the whole warrior ethos.

There was no samurai culture.
>>
>>923827

The samurai became nobles and officials after the Tokugawa demilitarized the country and closed the borders.

What the fuck are you talking about?
>>
What would be Samurai culture? Can you even talk about a samurai culture? The Shimazu were probably very different from the Uesugi.
>>

The Samurais were like the Janissary's
Massive cunts who held back Japan

B-b-but my Chinese cartoons says otherwise!

They did not, they took various historical examples and edo period ideas out of context to promote the idea of selflessly dying for the cause and supporting the emperor unto death.

the army was actually considered somewhat low class, and descendants of high ranking samurai were more likely to gravitate towards the navy.
>>
>>923827
The main thing (I think) is that they made it so the average citizen can take up arms and die for their leaders, making the Samurai not special snowflakes anymore.

>>924593
Own weapons, oppress peasants, fuck bitches n sheeeeit.
>>
>>923827
samurai as institution is dead since meiji reformation

samurai as culture and tradition is alive and well, and especially appropriated for japanese nationalism
>>
>>924593
You can, but you need to be period specific, and even then there are qualifiers. Early samurai (bushi, samurai were the lowest part of the warrior class) talked about kyuba no michi (the way of the horse and bow) The Konjaku monogatari contains several stories of battles and duels which tell you alot about the values of the warrior class at the time. There are also clan spefic documents about how warriors are to conduct themselves, which at least tell you how samurai should have behaved ideally. Historical records of how samurai behaved in various situations are also very telling, and not a a flattering way by today's standards
