This is a bigger factor than a lot of people give credit to. Having one ethnic group leads to a LOT less division in society, more widespread feelings of solidarity, intra-group trust, etc. One culture, one people, but completely receptive to outside ideas so long as they believe they will improve Japan.

You're ignoring Japan's industry prior to WW2, they didn't go from backwards shithole to second in the world economically. They went from a world power to a secondary power (though this isn't because they got weaker in particular, it's just that the USSR/USA moved bar up so fucking high that no one else was even close).

Japanese post-war industry is actually fascinating. The Americans didn't do as much as you would think, they were mostly overseeing development and broke up some old backwards practices (certain social monopolies). The reason that Japan became so fucking strong in the 60's-70's in particular had to do with business practices and infrastructure advantages, one of the most important of the former being Kaizen. Japanese factories became far more efficient than American factories, forcing American producers to adopt Japanese practices in order to keep up. This last until China decided to be niggers.

Of course, but this means that if the Empire of Japan had waited just 20 years they would have been in an even better position, economically.
And they could certainly have afforded to just wait 20 years since they historically spent those decades ruining themselves in total war.

On the other hand, no one can predict what post-War Japan might have looked like without the wartime economy and industry providing the seeds for peacetime development.

And as always, hindsight is 20/20. Japan was just creating imperial economic blocs like all its rivals.
