>a brief summary for why he's relevant

Okay he went from rural peasant who would have spent his entire life shovel shit to the god-emperor of mankind (or just China)

Deleuze, Sellars, McDowell, Brandom, Latour, Quine, Kripke, Parfit, Negri, Stiegler, Badiou, Bernard Williams

If you want to be really up-to-date, there are people like Edward Sosa, Duncan Pritchard, Tyler Burge, Huw Price, John Hawthorne, Hilary Kornblith, etc. who are highly-cited but have little to no name recognition outside philosophy.

Roger Scruton is an extremely good writer with academic credentials in philosophy and law. His book Fools, Frauds and Firebrands is a great one-volume introduction to various important twentieth-century intellectuals like Sartre, Lacan, Gramsci, Foucault, Luckacs and Zizek.
