For the homes in those specific pics, it was.

The people were living close to the edge as it was and when the je... bankers pulled the rug out from under everybody, it pushed them over the edge.

But Detroit has been crumbling into ruin ever since Coleman Young took office as mayor in 1973.

I'd love to see a collection of footage of Soviet/German alliance. Simple search always shows the same couple pictures but I know there's more. Parts of it is in the documentary "Soviet Story" which also has this juicy fragment.

Not a photo but a short video. British animation from 1899. Basically an advert to support the British during the Boer War. Victorian animation is actually a thing and there's something great about it.

I'm mostly gonna be focusing on blacks, since they were hit hardest out of all the demographics.
>anti-black discrimination
This is one of the biggest reasons. Black soldiers were excluded from the benefits of the GI Bill, which made it possible for the millions of returning veterans to get easily college education and home loans.
There was also a policy known as red-lining, where banks would systematically deny loans to 'high investment risk' (read: majority black) neighborhoods, which they often color-coded as red on city maps. This meant that many blacks were forced to rent rather than buy, decreasing the amount of assets they owned compared to white families and making them more susceptible to financial hardship.
The values of property blacks owned was also hurt, by white flight (middle- and upper-class whites moving to the suburbs means less tax money to develop the city) and blockbusting (realtors played up racial scares to encourage others to sell their houses cheap, thus hurting property values).
>loss of industry
The biggest contributor was the decline of American industry. The opening of relations with the PRC, the beginnings of automation, increasing outsources, and the emergence of globalization meant that American industry was harmed, and with it, American industrial workers. This was especially true for the auto industry, where the Oil Crisis of 1973 led to increased demands for smaller, more fuel-efficient Japanese cars, giving them a foothold in the US market that they increasingly dominated. Declining industry meant that millions of jobs vanished, massively boosting unemployment.
