How do fellow anons find good historical (academic) books on various subjects? I'm currently looking through academic reading lists.
Go to the little book shop next to your local library. I found a good philosophy text book in mine. Otherwise, search online.
libgen.io is your go to, bookfi.net is also great.

I'll add that academia.eu can be a good source for papers

I think he's asking how to find books worth reading on certain subjects, not where to obtain them, though I will third your suggestion of libgen for that.

You have to ask. What I've been doing lately is finding non b8 threads here, you know the ones, with the OP's that are well worded and put forth actual discussion? I find those and ask. It's always good to get personal recommendations from others actually interested in certain subjects. Some works might be outdated, but still excellent and comprehensive, only needing to be followed up with a more contemporary book to bring you up to speed on current theories and schools of thought. Some are absolute drivel written by pop-"historians," and will do you more harm than good.
Other than that the best you can do is try to Google lists, but that is tedious and hit or miss.
That said, what is the source for the OP image? I've seen it forever, and tried reverse image search and only got archived 4chan threads.
