Could Russia have realistically held Constantinople, if the Russian Empire remained intact and won WW1?

Tsargrad.. It would've been beautiful.

The Third Rome.
It could have been glorious.

If their rule lasted long enough: definitely yes. There were already large communities of Greeks and other Orthodox Christians in Constantinople

It would have been incredible easy. The Ottomans were basically destroyed by one guy. The idea they'd ever be strong enough to retake the city is kind of hilarious.

The real threat wasn't the Ottoman Empire, but the French and the British. The decline of the Ottoman empire was dominated by the Eastern question. That's why the British and the French opposed the Russians during the Crimean war, while also assisting the Ottomans during their wars with Muhammad Ali of Egypt.

I heard that by 1922 over half of the city's population was still Christian.

But what about balance of power
>>3385927
Fucking Anglos ruined everything
>>3385927
Russia getting Constantinople was one of their conditions for joining the war. France and Britain propping up the Ottomans went out the window as soon as WWI started.

>the brits fuck up everything
>once again

The situation was too fucked up inside the country. After decades stagnation and refuse to change anything to improve life of commoners, people were only waiting for trigger to start a revolt, and they almost made it in 1905 after fiasco war with Japan. The deed was finally done in 1917.
Only point when Russia could realistically take Constantinopole was Crimean war, if France and Britain didnt join
Everything ITT is bullshit.
The West wanted to divide Turkey after the war and put Constantinople under shared control, see Treaty of Sevres. But they got BTFO by the Turks, the greek and armenian puppets of the West got properly genocided, and instead the Treaty of Lausanne got established. So no, Russia probably couldn't have taken Constantinople, if the West failed to do so.
No, it could not have.
greeks in turkey weren't after russian rule, they were after greek rule.
