How come nobody tried to invade Sub-Saharan Africa until the 1800's?

What's sad is that this is legitimately a better OP about Africa as top of most OP's on other topics on this board.
>>3384336
Who would want to?
>>3384336
Because the terrain of Africa makes invading it really fucking hard until you have technology that is pretty modern.
They feared the black warrior.
The Portuguese had been in Central Africa since the 15th century
Why make this thread when a quick Google search would've proved you wrong
They feared the mosquito warrior

Until the 1800s, the idea of conquering Sub-Saharan Africa wasn't all that feasible, nor worth it. Sure, there were postulations of rare jewels and loads of gold abound, but the Europeans knew full well that there were certainly these things in the Far East. Industrial resources, like rubber, were found to be in abundance, so in went most European countries that could support a massive endeavor. Public support was secured in the idea of bringing new children into the Imperial fold, teaching them the good faith, and providing the infrastructure for all peoples to enjoy the bounty of civilization. Before the 1800s, most European/Islamic soldiers were pretty reliant on some form of metal armor for their effective troops. The really hot climate Africa has makes any attempt of conquest unfeasible if rather than easily subduing the natives, your best soldiers are just going to sweat to death in the heat. Sure, you can take off your armor beforehand, but is that really a smart idea when the enemy could be lurking around any corner?
That's not what Africa looks like at all

During the 16th-18th centuries, the new world was way more lucrative/politically important than Africa, and Asia was still very important until the age of imperialism ended.
The scramble for Africa started during the Long Depression and this is not a coincidence. They needed new markets to bring their countries out of sustained deficits.

And iron weapons, unlike America or Australia. And gunpowder, unlike America or Australia.
What is now Lesotho exists because the locals defeated the European invaders with gunpowder weapons. It's one of the very few places to remain on the map from that time until now, typically Europeans would just invade again a few years later, not in Lesotho.

>new markets
If all they wanted was peaceful trade there would have been no invasion. They wanted to TAX the markets and resources.
>>3385838
fuck off faggot
>>3388989
No, tax was the old colonial way.
The way they did it was to cut production costs, directly through mining or agriculture or some industry that was way cheap via overexplored labour, or indirectly, roughly the same way, but instead of an english production, think indian production.
