Why did the USA care enough about communism to fight wars for South Korea and South Vietnam, but not enough to fight a war for the Republic of China? Isn't China the biggest deal in the region?
>>
>>3350404
Probably because the Chinese civil war was immediatly after WW2
>>
WW2 had just ended and everybody underestimated Mao until it was too late.

Mao's opposition was also a complete fucking shitshow.
>>
>>3350404
Jeez I wonder why anon
>>
Fighting an insurgency in China would be like Vietnam on steroids which essentially was what happened to Japan during WWII. It's not fucking worth it.

Plus, nobody expected the Kuomintang to fuck up that badly. Commies are always more motivated than their puppet opponents, whether it be in China, Korea, or Vietnam.

>Plus, nobody expected the Kuomintang to fuck up that badly.
One of the major reasons support was withdrawn from the KMT was due to how badly they were fucking up during WW2 proper. They were entirely expected to fuck up that badly, so much so that they were written off as a lost cause.
>>
>>3350404
Oh come on, look at how massive China is compared to Korea or Vietnam.
>>
>>3350431
The KMT's incompetence contributed massively to general disdain for the fighting abilities of Chinese during that time which led to a tragic underestimation during the Korean war. Nobody expected Mao's troops to do that much better.
>>
>>3350404
The Chinese Civil War was first, we hadn't learned the importance of deterring communism until after it happened.

The way you phrased the OP is misleading and implies that we made the decision about China after Korea and Vietnam, which is false.
>>

And I doubt there was much appetite among the US public for entering into another huge conflict so soon after WW2. Plus there was the Soviet Union to think about... the resources necessary to beat the Chinese Communists using conventional forces may have dangerously deprived other sectors, and using nuclear forces would have threatened Soviet intervention and been widely viewed as unethical. Plus the US was dealing with Korea 1950-1953. And then when 1964 rolled around, the Chinese words became backed by nuclear weapons, and any window for intervention that may have previously existed became closed.
>>
The US sent WW2 veteran paratroopers recruited by the CIA to train Chiang Kai-shek's forces. We just didn't commit boots on the ground.
>>
>>3350404
Chinese Civil War happened really fast all things considered
>>
We didn't believe in the domino theory back then. China changing its government made us think differently because in the span of a year, suddenly half of humanity was communist because of just 2 countries.
>>
>>3350422
>Korea
Clearly you've never worked with or read about the ROK Marine Corps then.
Or the dudes in the Axe Murder Incident who went up to the commie shits with claymores strapped to their chests.
>>
>>3350437
Ironically a lot of the forces sent into Korea were surrendered KMT who were basically being sent because they were distrusted and considered more expendable.
>>
>>3350421
>vague question b\c you don't wanna be laughed at for being an ideologue.

Come out and play pol/cuck, we want to see the conspiracy theory so we can laugh at you.
>>
>>3350404
its because China was """"lost"""" that we cared enough to fight in the other states in the region
>>
>>3351709
what?

Surrendered KMT weren't trusted with guns, they were sent to re-education rather than Korea. The core of the Chinese forces sent into Korea was the 4th army, which is the successor of the new 4th army, which in turn is wholly communist.
>>
>>3350404
America and The commies were geopolitical enemies so they had to compete through proxy wars to attain dominance within the world.
>>
>>3350422

>People actually believe the second part of this post

kys senpai
>>
>>3351850
There were former KMT in the troops sent to Korea, when captured as pows they requested to be sent back to Taiwan rather than the mainland.
>>
>>3350404
China was already a lost cause at that point
