So how did this guy get away with basically changing the country's religion just so he could get a divorce? Did Lutheranism have a foothold in England by the time he flipped the Pope?
>>
>>3347273
Because fuck the pope.
>>
>>3347273
No, there were rebellions across the country, especially in the North. There are four million British Catholics today
Also, he dissolved the monasteries but the protestant-tier, iconoclastic shit only started under later monarchs like Elizabeth
Don't forget that saying you're Anglican is basically saying "well I'm Catholic, but fuck the Pope"
I was baptised into the Church of England and it's pretty shite these days. Old-style, High Church figures in the C of E are based as fuck

That obese cunt should have been burned at the stake, and his blubber fed to the pigs.

Also my ancestors never betrayed their faith feelsgoodman.

>Anglican is basically saying "well I'm Catholic, but fuck the Pope"

Anglicanism doesn't incorporate any of the Protestant doctrines? (Other than fuck the Pope).
>>
>>3347306
You're either a frog or live in a shithole then.
All the most developed countries are historically Protestant.
>>
>>3347332
Nice meme. protestants are the great heretical evil, promoting degeneracy enabling transgenders and abortions.
>>
>>3347273
he didnt institute actual continental protestantism like faith alone or that the sacraments weren't real. all he did was force the english bishops to separate from the pope and allow him to destroy the monasteries for profit. otherwise he kept the latin mass and the priesthood until his death in 1547 when archbishop cranmer began instituting actual protestant beliefs into the english church and changing it into Anglicanism.
>>
>>3347321

Anglicanism is split into Low church and High church. High church Anglicanism is Catholicism minus the pope. Low church Anglicanism is much more resembling of Protestantism.

Explain why RC countries are shitholes

Henry requested a divorce and waited 8 years before cutting from Rome

Why did the pope on allow a divorce from an aged barren spanish queen?

Because the pope was in the pocket of the inbred Habsburgs

What determines which one someone follows?
>>
>>3347321
that was in the beginning it became fully protestant after the 1547-1552 reforms. only high church anglo catholicism is like that but its technically against anglican code of conduct and is condemned.
>>
>>3347442
the church does not recognize divorce and remarriage unless if it was sacramentally invalid in the first place which it wasn't.
>>
Henry's Church initially wasn't Protestant. He just decided that he would be the head of the Catholic Church in England after his dispute with the Pope.
It was Cromwell who encouraged him to embrace somewhat Protestant Policies.

They aren't even really Protestant, just shadow Catholics who eschewed some minor Catholic policies. They still have a Church Head and Bishops and shit, which Protestants are heavily against.
>>
>>3347423
Not him, but some of the richest regions in Europe are majority Catholic. Bavaria, Austria, North Italy, Switzerland. In German empire the most protestant region (Ostpreußen) was also the poorest one.

t. Lutheran

The fuck? He died 50 years before Cromwell was even born.
>>
>>3347371
Oh look, it's another LARPer.

They had legitimate grievances at the time, just like many catholics including myself have grievances today. I disagree with the solution to those grievances, but labeling the entire religion as 'heresy' is retarded and divisive. Mend the schisms, don't drive the wedge further.

>>

The initial anglican church as created by Henry VIII was literally just Catholicism with the king of england as the head of the church, and no restrictions on divorce. It was a deep disappointment to the protestants living in England who had been trying to spread the reformation.

This disappointment was what spawned the Puritan movement, the name actually refers to a desire to purify the church of England of its ties to Catholicism.
>>
>>3349251
Bullshit. Divorces were granted to various royals when it was politically convenient.
>>
>>3349251
>the church does not recognize divorce and remarriage unless if it was sacramentally invalid in the first place which it wasn't.
or politically expedient, in which case it was called an annulment and not a divorce
>>
>>3349325
And this one was politically inconvenient for the Church. You don't want to piss off Spain, the force of Catholicism in Western Europe, when the Reformation is tearing apart Europe.
>>
>>3349251
Catherine was married to Henrys brother Arthur at first, how sacramental is demanding the marriage to his dead brothers wife?
>>
>>3349342
Henry actually had to finagle marry Katherine in the first place. He had to claim his brother never consummated his marriage, which is frankly ridiculous.
Henry was doing this litigious bullshit with marriage from day 1.

Jane Foole, also known as Jane The Foole, and Jane, The Queen's Fool (fl. 1543-1558), was an English court jester. She was the jester of queen Catherine Parr, queen Mary I of England, and possibly, of queen Anne Boleyn. She has been described as the only female court jester ever depicted.

Jane's full name, birth year, and background are unknown. Beden the Fool also appears in related notes of the time and it has been suggested that Beden was her surname.

Jane is believed to have had a learning disability.[1]

> So how did this guy get away with basically changing the country's religion just so he could get a divorce?

There was a lot of corruption within the Catholic church at the time, which was pissing people off and additionally, many of the nobility and merchant class wanted to be able to profit by charging interest (which was limited to Jews).

The Pope fucked up by denying the divorce, which threatened the Tudor dynasty with civil war if Henry VIII couldn’t produce a male heir, forcing the English to side with the Protestants.

Yet the UK, Scandinavia, Germany, and the Netherlands take a shit all over Italy, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Poland, and the Czech Republic today.
>>
>>3352046
you're missing his point, senpai. First of all, its a huge mistake to assume the Germany is protestant. It has an equal amount of Catholics and one of the most industrialized areas of the country's modern history is the Rhineland, a heavily catholic region. The eastern part of Germany was protestant and largely rural, but derived its power from the control of the political system, at least in the German Empire. It also lost industrial regions like Silesia (catholic?) and Communist Eastern Germany inherited industrialized parts of Saxony but those stagnated for the most part.

Czech republic isn't Catholic, it's the most atheist country on Earth.

He just declared himself head of the English church, so basically took a papal legate title and his excommunication didn't matter to his vassals due to how powerful he had become and France and Spain seemed ready to war England at any point

The spirit of Protestantism sprang from men who took their unquestioning Catholic faith with such seriousness that they could not but protest against the evil things they beheld about them.

Wycliffe (1320-1384) was a learned doctor at Oxford; for a time he was Master of Balliol; and he held various livings in the Church. He began a series of outspoken criticisms of the corruption of the clergy and the unwisdom of the Church.

Be organised a number of poor priests, the Wycliffites, to spread his ideas throughout England; and in order that people should judge between the Church and himself, he had the Bible translated into English.

He had supporters in high places and a great following among the people; and though Rome raged against him and ordered his imprisonment, he died a free man, still administering the sacraments as parish priest of Lutterworth.

The black and ancient spirit that was leading the Church to its destruction would not let his bones rest in his grave. By a decree of the Council of Constance, in 1415, his remains were ordered to be dug up and burnt, an order which was carried out, at the command of Pope Martin V, by Bishop Fleming in 1428.
