Which countries had active nuclear programs with the intention of building nuclear weapons, but ultimately failed or abandoned their programs? I already know libya, iraq, japan, and iran have had historically tried building nuclear weapons.

South Africa
>>3335451
Any other countries that had nuclear programs?
>>3335514
Sweden
they shut it down 72 for political reasons
>>3335514
Argentina and Brazil were both very close to getting the bomb, Argentina even developed Medium-range Ballistic Missiles alongside. When democracy returned in the 1980s both agreed to dismantle their nuclear weapons plans and join the NPT together.
Both still enrich uranium for peaceful uses and have large nuclear research infraestructure. The know-how is still there.
>>3335514
Switzerland, but they shut their program down after they had a core meltdown in one of their reactors.
>>3335447
I once heard a rumor that Armenia secretly had a nuclear arsenal, although only a few news sites picked up the story.
Poland had one. Under Gierek era
>>3335641
Interesting, shit Argentina even had ballistic missiles. Hmm well without nuclear weapons nations have a lot less sovereignty. Look at Libya, Gadaffi gave up his weapons willingly and look what happened
>>3339020
Or at least geopolitical Argentina and Brazil would have been able to impose their interests more
SA gave up their nukes right before the end of apartheid because they didn't want blacks to have them.
>>3339020
Argentina became a Major Non-NATO Ally of the USA in the 1990s and basically integrated into the Western Alliance system. They traded nukes for free trade and integration into the world economy.
I don't know what Brazil got out of it though.
But it's a sensible choice when you realize that the NTP members will basically completely isolate any country seeking nukes with sanctions.
Only dictatorships can afford to withstand the sanctions through sheer repression of their subjects. But isolation is too high a cost on economic growth.
>>3335447
>iran
There has been no evidence to date that Iran has tried to build nuclear weapons.
>>3339893
So whats all the fuss about iran's nuclear program about these days.
Realistically, could Germany had built nuclear weapons during ww2?
>>3339905
Propaganda by the zionist lobby to drag America into another pointless war of Israeli expansionism.
>>3339917
Probably not in time to use it.
>>3335447
Brazil and Argentina.
Will post more about when I get home on my PC.

Does not meet 25 year rule, so let's keep Iran out of it for the moment.
>>3339917
Well they didn't, so it depends on what you want to change to help them. The allies bombing heavy water factories in Norway was a big problem, but not lethal. The Academia was heavily politicised and many weren't exactly doing their best for the cause, no surprise when even using the theory of relativity was considered jewish science.
Heisenberg in particular was either cleverly sabotaging it or had a massive brainfart as he clearly understood it and even had students in the Manhattan project. With most of their scientific community circling the drain, it's likely that they'd be close but still far away for a long time.
25 year rule you idiots
Technically, Canada, although it was a joint effort with the Brits.
>>3340825
Pretty sure they were involved with the Manhattan project
>>3340871
Yes, plus other programs. They later abandoned nuclear weapons.
>>3340871
they also stockpiled American nukes under the NATO sharing program, including nuclear AAMs
>>3340689
Heisenberg was not very respected because he was seen as a jewish-physics scienist. You can use what the germans called aryan-physics to build an atomic bomb but it takes longer and is more difficult. So thats just one of the many ways where their racist ideologies dragged down the germans.
>>3340908
Yeah but Canada is basically America
>>3335447
Oh, no need, everybody explained it already.
>tfw when you are part of a cuck civilization (latin) whitout a single nuclear bomb.
The closest we have is France and they are least latin of the latins.
>>3335447
Syria tried to start a nuclear power program but Israel shut that down pretty quick
